Mikey is a wonderful dog! He's almost perfect, except he gets anxious if left alone, so he'll do best with another small adult dog to keep him company. His ideal home is one where his owners are retired and home most of the time. When Mikey first came to us, he was anxious, but now that he’s settled in, he’s less nervous as he is learning the routine. Mikey had a dental and lost no teeth, which is completely unheard of in a 12-year-old, so his teeth were taken care of by the old owner, and we want the next owner to be just as vigilant. Please make a place in your home and heart for Mikey. Don’t let him sit in a foster home waiting; he really needs YOU!Our must-haves for adorable Mikey include: Another adult small dog to keep him company Someone home most of the time A fenced yard or someone committed to leash walking for a nice stroll around the neighborhood Sorry no apartments, high-rises, or anything with shared walls, as he does like to talk sometimes when left home alone ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
Adoption Process
Our adoption process is documented on our website at: http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/info/adoption
We do check all references including vet and a home visit is conducted for each animal adoption unless the adopter has previously adopted and there have been no changes or large lapse of time.
