Meet Trixie

Meet little Trixie! Trixie is a tiny little senior lady who traveled from Texas to find her home in WNY. See in Texas a dog like her would be overlooked simply due to her age. But we know that Buffalo loves their senior dogs, so we had to had help find a forever home. Trixie is a 10-12 year old shihtzu mix. Our best guess would be possibly mixed with Maltese. She has the Maltese howl when she talks to you. To get her to howl and come running, make sure to call her “pretty pretty girl”. She knows she's beautiful!    Trixie is everything we love about a senior dog. She is very laid back. All she seems to want is to take leisurely walks through the neighborhood, lie on the back of the couch or in a bed, and basically be anywhere you are. Trixie is crate trained, although a crate is not necessary for her. Trixie is perfectly content to sleep the day away in her bed while you are at work. She does appear to be mostly housebroken, but will not ask to go out, you will need to take her out regularly. Overnight, she will sleep in bed right up against you all night, until it’s time to get up and go outside. One thing we have noticed is that right after she eats, Trixie will poop. It is best to watch her eat and then take her right out. If you wait even 5 minutes, she will go in the house. That seems to be her only downfall.    When her foster family comes home, Trix is very excited to see them. She will run to them and ask to be picked up. That tail will wag so fast, you can barely see it. Trix is a total lap dog. Trixie does excellent in the car, so if you like to travel, Trixie is the perfect co-pilot for you.    Trixie gets along well with everyone she meets, dogs, cats, men, and women. She has not been exposed to small children at this point but we don’t think it would be an issue. Simply because of her age, slightly older kids (8+) might be better for her.    Trixie is heartworm negative and has been given a 12 month Pro Heart injection for heartworm prevention. It appears as though she has had a dental at some point and her teeth look great. We believe that she is spayed and can see what we think is a spay scar. There is no tattoo so we can’t be positive. The only way for us to know for sure is to open her up for exploratory surgery. At her age, we would prefer not to do that, since it can be traumatic for senior dogs.    If you think Trixie is a match for you, please make sure to apply today. She’s a great little girl who deserves a loving retirement home where she can get all the snuggles and treats she could possibly want.  Trixie is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  Her adoption fee is $400
