Meet Maverick

  Meet Maverick!   Maverick’s story is, unfortunately, a heartbreaking example of what often happens in overwhelmed county shelters—where virtually anyone can walk in and adopt a dog, sometimes with little regard for the animal’s safety.   In Maverick’s case, his original adopter specifically requested that he not be neutered—so he’d have a better chance of fighting the adopter’s dominant male dog. Yes, you read that right. We hear some unimaginable things in rescue, but this was a first.   Thankfully, Maverick was returned to the shelter unharmed. But with the facility filling up fast and space always at a premium, we knew we had to act quickly.   Enter an amazing foster who stepped up to give Maverick the second chance he so deeply deserved. Thanks to them, Maverick is now safe, loved, and thriving.   This beautiful boy is about 2 years old and full of love and energy. He’s wonderful with other dogs, great with kids, potty trained, and well-behaved. He still needs some basic command training, but he’s incredibly smart and eager to learn. Maverick is now neutered, fully vaccinated, and on regular preventatives.   He’s the epitome of a German Shepherd—loyal, intelligent, playful, and deeply devoted.
