Drake will be a little shy at first, but once he warms up to you, he will be all about YOU. He loves lap time, spending time outside with you, and helping with yard work. If you decide you want to adopt this sweet boy, you will have to continue to protect his back so no other injury happens. That is why it is very important for you to read the “must haves” below. Our must-haves for precious Drake include someone who: Will not allow him to get overweight Will not allow him to do stairs Will not allow him to jump Is home more often than not; apartments or condos are acceptable Has another laid-back, small adult dog to keep him company if you have to be gone Has experience with IVDD  If you meet these requirements and want to make Drake your forever dog, please fill out our online adoption application and/or reach out to the foster mom for more details on him.   ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.  There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.  We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process is documented on our website at: http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/info/adoption We do check all references including vet and a home visit is conducted for each animal adoption unless the adopter has previously adopted and there have been no changes or large lapse of time.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
