Dolly is a sweet girl, and it takes her a minute to warm up to strangers and other dogs, but once the proper introductions are made, she is fine. She is a talker when strangers come to the door, so a condo or apartment would not be the best situation for her. She does enjoy a fenced yard and rolling around in the grass. Another activity that Dolly enjoys is taking her walks, which is good because this little lady is working to lose weight. In addition to exercise, she currently eats Blue Buffalo Weight Management kibble softened with a little water. Dolly loves her toys, especially squeakers. Unlike many dachshunds, she is not destructive, nor does she chew or tear toys. She will chase the ball but does not often bring it back, but she gets exercise running after the ball. Dolly loves to hide under the bed, especially during thunderstorms. We are still learning more about Dolly, so if you want more information, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are looking for her last forever home, will that be your home? Our must-haves for adorable Dolly include: A fenced yard Someone who will continue her weight loss journey with weight management and exercise A newly retired person that she can follow around She can be an only dog or in a home with one other adult to senior small dog. She’s fine with a bigger dog as long as they will respect her space but NO cats. No apartments, condos, or high-rises ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
Adoption Process
Our adoption process is documented on our website at: http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/info/adoption
We do check all references including vet and a home visit is conducted for each animal adoption unless the adopter has previously adopted and there have been no changes or large lapse of time.
