How to Make a Dachshund’s Day!

Make a dog's day

Approximately 3.3 Million Dogs Enter Shelters in the United States Annually

That’s 1 dog every 10 seconds.

October 22nd will be the first-ever National Make a Dog’s Day, where the ASPCA encourages dog owners all over the world to do something extra special for their furry friends.

Although it’s important to spoil your dogs at home, the ASPCA wants to shed light and focus on the importance of adopting a dog from a shelter or donating your time and/or money to help save their lives.

The ASPCA wants to focus extra efforts on finding homes for shelter dogs who may have a more difficult time finding loving, safe homes—this includes dogs who may have special needs or may have a few more candles on their birthday cakes.”

How Are We Celebrating This National Holiday?

On October 22nd and 23rd, the team at Sausage Dog Central will be offering 15% off to customers, and will be donating $5 per DachRamp sold to the NSPCA (Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). In addition to the $5 per ramp, we will be donating bags of food and lots of toys!

For Every 1 DachRamp Sold, 20 Dogs in Need Will Have a Healthy Meal

The reason this is so important, is because the NSPCA is 100% individual funded. Meaning, they receive no financial support from the government, or from national animal rescue organizations. That is why any donation can go such a long way.

Here are Some Other Ways You Can “Make a Dog’s Day”

There are so many different ways you can help a dog in need and make their day.

Some people might think, “I don’t have the time to adopt a dog”, or it just isn’t practical for their current lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways to help. Here are just a few different ideas and examples:

#1. Adoption

With the overwhelming number of 3.3 Million dogs entering shelters annually, it’s crucial that we spread awareness so that more of those dogs can find safe and loving homes. If you’re considering adding a furry best friend to your family, you can “Make a Dog’s Day” by providing a place to call home.

#2. Fostering

If you can’t make the commitment to adding a dog permanently to your home, there are options to foster! This means that while a rescue dog is awaiting his or her forever home, they will be able to spend that time in a house snuggled up on a sofa rather than alone in a shelter.

The majority of the time, the shelter will provide you with the food and equipment you need, so that you don’t have to pay out of pocket. Fostering is also a great way for you to be able to spend time with multiple different dogs and feel happy knowing you were a part of so many different dog’s journeys to finding a permanent family!

#3. Donate Your Time

There are so many ways you can donate your time! A Saturday morning spent at a dog shelter can make a big difference. Shelters need dog walkers, groomers, handlers, trainers, and even volunteers that just want to cuddle with and socialize with the dogs.

Yes, you read that correctly, you can volunteer to be a dog cuddler!

#4. Donate Supplies

A lot of shelters, like the NSPCA, depend on individual donations to keep the place running. You can donate food, blankets, toys, bathing and grooming equipment, etc.

Each shelter has different needs, so call your local shelter to see what they need the most.
