Meet Juliet, a resilient and loving 2.5-year-old Malinois with a heartwarming story of survival and recovery. Originally trapped in South Houston, pregnant and in distress, Juliet faced a challenging start to motherhood. Despite the vet's attempts to help her deliver, all nine puppies were stillborn, leaving Juliet traumatized and reactive. When she came into her foster home, she was initially scared and had to spend the majority of the first week in a kennel. However, with love, patience, and the company of another foster, Abby, Juliet has gradually emerged from her shell. The companionship has worked wonders, coaxing her out of her kennel and into the yard, where she now happily roams without a lead, playing and bonding with the other dogs. Juliet has shown significant progress but still has moments of timidity, especially in response to loud sounds. She has become crate-trained, house-trained, and leash-trained. In the mornings, she eagerly greets the day, ready to go outside and explore with bright eyes, wagging tail, and a playful demeanor. Her energy level is moderate, with a balanced prey drive and vocal tendencies. She may not show much interest in chew toys or treats, but she enjoys her meals and has a soft spot for chicken and sausage. Juliet enjoys chasing a tennis ball and playing with the other Malinois, exhibiting a low toy drive but a high food drive. While she settles well in a large kennel next to another dog, Juliet did not fare well alone in a master bedroom kennel. However, relocating her to a different room with a fellow foster has proven successful. Juliet is still learning commands like 'down' and 'no bite,' requiring gentle redirection as she continues to adjust and open up to her new environment. She may be reserved around new people, especially children, but with patience and respectful interactions, she accepts gentle pets. In terms of living arrangements, Juliet could thrive in a quiet, solo dog home, but she has blossomed with the companionship of another female Malinois. She remains unsure about the larger male Malinois and is yet to be introduced to him outside the kennel. Juliet is also adapting to the presence of a 12-year-old lab/Welsh Corgi mix and shows potential for coexistence with a cat, given time and guidance. While Juliet may initially be cautious around fast movements and loud sounds, she is making progress and has the potential to be a wonderful addition to a caring and understanding family, with or without children. Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of love, patience, and the healing influence of companionship.
