American Belgian Malinois Rescue, Inc

The mission of the American Belgian Malinois, Inc (ABMR, Inc) is to act on behalf of homeless or unwanted purebred Belgian Malinois dogs. ABMR, Inc fulfills its mission of service by securing qualified assessment, care, fostering, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and permanent loving homes for Belgian Malinois dogs and puppies that are surrendered, impounded, neglected, abused, or discarded. This breed is often surrendered to shelters due to their high energy levels and are becoming popular with backyard breeders due to their large litters. Our dogs are required to be spayed or neutered before available for adoption.

Meet Bucket - NJ

Buckie was adopted from a Georgia shelter in 2020 because they were told he would make a good apartment dog. They soon found out this was not the case, but they managed to keep his exercise needs met though it was a challenge to do so. As the family grew, it became nearly impossible to give Bucket the attention he deserved and the time he needed outside the apartment. They made the heartbreaking decision to turn him over to ABMR, so he can find the home he deserves. Bucket is excited to see other dogs, and though he is (approximately) 8 years young, he still has exercise and training needs to keep his mind and body sharp. Bucket has a slight bend in one ear from an infection, and rather than give him cosmetic surgery, his first family and ABMR have decided it gives him character. It is not painful to him.  He does have an aversion to fireworks and thunderstorms, but he is also leash, house, and crate trained. You will need to be careful with fences and gates, as he may still be able to climb over or open them on his own if left to his own devices. Bucket is friendly but protective of his family. Bucket knows basic commands like bed, sit, heel, come, down, leave it, wait, and a cute one called "snoot." He is also up to date on his shots and preventions. He is currently eating a food for sensitive stomachs and take supplements to keep him active into old age.  We will update more as his foster gets to know him. Bucket is working on resource guarding of food and water, and he is learning to settle in a new crate. Additionally, he continues to work on leash manners and gaining weight.  Bucket is not a good match for young children, cats, or other small animals as he is too interested in things that roll or run.
