Meet Lila
Please meet Lila! She is around 8 months old, spayed, current on her vaccines, has a natural tail, weighs in at 34 pounds, and is being fostered in Scappoose, OR. Lila spent a couple of days traveling to Oregon from Tucson, AZ with her sister Candace but was alert and eager for contact when picked up from her transporter; so eager that she wouldn’t leave her foster’s lap for the drive from Portland to Scappoose. She continues to claim priority seating whenever his lap presents itself, especially at home, but he now restricts her driving assistance to the passenger seat. Lila is a smart, loving, active pup that pays attention and seems eager to please and learn. Her foster’s primary attention has been to work on her potty training and behavior more than on specific command training, but she has already learned a lot in two weeks. Potty training continues but improves daily. She is taken outside immediately in the morning and whenever she gets up from lying down, and as often as it seems needed. Lila particularly responds well to the command “go potty” when outside. Lila knows her name and her recall is excellent. Even when off-leash she stays close and attentive. She loves walks and going for car rides and will jump into her foster’s truck as quickly as the door is opened. Among the voice commands she knows and responds well to are “no”, “sit”, “c’mon”, and “let’s go”. She also knows exactly what’s going on in the kitchen and has learned where the border line is when given the command “out”. Lila crates well overnight but isn’t eager to be penned in. However, she goes into the crate on her own quickly for feeding, which helps avoid conflict due to her need for better manners with another dog’s bowl. There isn’t any aggression, just a voracious appetite that leads to her licking any remaining crumbs from other food bowls as quickly as she is released. She would definitely benefit from a puzzle bowl to slow down the gulping of her food; and watch your fingers when offering a treat! Lila’s socialization is going wonderfully. She is affectionate with people, has behaved well, (like a typical eager puppy), with the kids she’s met, and has had a great time with dogs she has met. She’s up for a good wrestle and a bit of trash talking pretty much any time with her foster’s personal Boxers and also with new canine buddies. The resident cat isn’t notably fond of her attempts to play and chase, but Lila hasn’t demonstrated any real prey drive toward the cat, and she backs off when the feline expresses displeasure. Lila has bonded quickly with her foster dad and his Boxers, so her adopter may need to offer extra snuggles and encouragement for a period of time; but she will give more love than she gets once she has settled in with a new family. Puppy training classes would be great for Lila and also provide an opportunity for bonding with her forever family. Lila is a wonderful, smart, happy little pup, so if that’s what you’re looking for, then please submit an application today – https://www.mustluvboxersrescue.com/adopt.
