Meet Chaquita

  Animal Profile: Chiquita is an approximately 7 month old 8 lb female terrier mix who is shy but sweet, and friendly with other dogs. She likes to sit on your lap once she gets to know you. She will be joining us from an overcrowded shelter in TX. We will share more about her as we get to know her in foster care.  Foster Update: Chiquita is a very sweet and sassy pup at only 8lbs! She loves to play with her toys and cuddle up with you after. She has lots of puppy energy and easily entertains herself with toys without you needing to play with her.    We are currently working on basic training and manners like "sit", "stay", "place" and walking on a leash. She is doing really well with potty training when taken outside on a consistent schedule. She will cry in her crate for a minute or two but then will settle and sleeps through the night! She is a bit fearful of the outside world and will bark at passing people, dogs and cars. We are working on her confidence so she can learn that the world isn't so scary!   She has exhibited some resource guarding behaviors towards the resident dog around her crate, toys and the couch. We have been working to correct this behavior and she now is starting to get along better with the resident dog.    Chiquita is so sweet however she needs time to warm up to new people and needs slow introductions to other dogs. We are looking for a home that understands that she will need additional time to decompress and get comfortable in a new environment and that can be patient with her as she works on her confidence. Once she is comfortable, she loves to be right by your side and involved in whatever you are doing.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. This dog will be fostered in the greater Seattle area and available for adoption once evaluated in foster care.
