New Rattitude, Inc.

New Rattitude is a national, all-volunteer non-profit rescue/adoption agency whose mission is to rescue Rat Terriers (and mixes that are predominantly Rat Terrier) from imminent death at animal shelters, the streets, abusive/neglectful homes, or from owners who can no longer keep a dog, and to rehome the dogs into new and permanent, screened and approved adoptive homes. Each dog rescued is cared for in a safe and nurturing foster care environment where he or she receives appropriate medical care, a high quality diet, training and socialization. To achieve these ends, the organization is involved with transportation, volunteer recruiting and training, mentoring, fund-raising, and establishing and maintaining other programs deemed helpful to achieving the mission of rescuing and re-homing Rat Terriers.

Meet Buddy (ID)

Handsome 22-lb. Buddy has the tricolor pattern common to rat terriers, but his coat length, personality, and overall behavior say that he's predominantly a herding dog/border collie. Since coming to New Rattitude about 2 years ago, the almost 4-year-old has been on a journey of self-improvement. How? His foster home has provided a consistent positive environment that focuses on routines and respect for Buddy's natural  inclinations, e.g. his need to have a job.  Buddy is always ready to "help."  He's wired to take his "job" seriously and needs to work a few times each day. Buddy's favorite job is playing ball, and although he's not that good at it, he thrives on the process and interaction with his human. A second job is attempting to herd the other dogs in his foster home away from "his" people. He's a little bigger than the other dogs and actually seems to enjoy them, but they don't appreciate Buddy's nose prodding them. Because he would rather be the sole focus of his people's attention, Buddy would do best as an only dog. While he hasn't been around cats, his herding instincts would probably annoy them too. Buddy has a side gig as a home security guard. He stays alert and uses his nose to keep abreast of what's happening. He's a homebody, who enjoys running on his own turf in a large, securely fenced area. A quiet rural area is ideal; city life would be too stimulating. A dog door permits Buddy to patrol as needed and to stay impeccably house-trained. Of course, holding down multiple jobs requires good sleep. Buddy actually asks to go to bed and sleeps in his crate every night without a peep.  In his past, Buddy received forceful training and correction, and he reacted by biting a person. He'll need 1-2 adults (no children) who are skilled at using positive reinforcement to guide him. He would benefit from more training to use an indoor voice and not jump on people. If you want a working dog who only asks to be paid with love, Buddy is perfect for the job. See more pictures of Buddy at  https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/buddy .
