New Rattitude, Inc.

New Rattitude is a national, all-volunteer non-profit rescue/adoption agency whose mission is to rescue Rat Terriers (and mixes that are predominantly Rat Terrier) from imminent death at animal shelters, the streets, abusive/neglectful homes, or from owners who can no longer keep a dog, and to rehome the dogs into new and permanent, screened and approved adoptive homes. Each dog rescued is cared for in a safe and nurturing foster care environment where he or she receives appropriate medical care, a high quality diet, training and socialization. To achieve these ends, the organization is involved with transportation, volunteer recruiting and training, mentoring, fund-raising, and establishing and maintaining other programs deemed helpful to achieving the mission of rescuing and re-homing Rat Terriers.

Meet Charmy (WA)

Quiet, cautious Charmy is so sweet once she trusts you! With time and space to get to know you, she'll become your loyal friend. Found as a stray with her sister and her presumed mom, 6-lb. Charmy looks like a puppy, but she's believed to be around 1-2 years old. For such a tiny thing, she has a streak of independence and will sit alone and explore in the yard by herself. This rattie mix likes spending time with her sister, and she tolerates being around the other dogs. Favorite activities are snuggling in the lap of her person and gobbling up any food that comes her way. In fact, she can become somewhat possessive of resources to the point of growling and snapping at any dogs who venture too close to her "prizes," even if it's just a spot of real estate on your bed.    Charmy walks fairly well on a leash,  but can pull in spite of her tiny size. She loves meeting new people and dogs and will then usually return to her own business unless she decides to follow the lead of her sister, Cherish, who clamors for attention. She does bark and strain at the leash upon seeing cats or small animals, so she might be better in a home without cats.  And needless to say, her size precludes her living with small children or anyone who can't handle her gently.   Charmy is on the right path with house-training; accidents only occur when she can't get outdoors quickly enough. She has decent indoor manners; she doesn't chew on furniture or bark a lot, and she sleeps quietly through the night (in YOUR bed of course). If you need to limit access to rooms, know that she can climb over any mesh or perforated barriers. Likewise, if you're driving with her, she must be safely tethered or crated, as she'll use her monkey-like agility to get to your lap! Yes, it may take bit of work to help this sweet, slightly impish sprite become a polished young lady, but you'll be charmed by the result!
