Humane Society of Warren County

HSWC is a 501c3 organization that holds a contract with Warren County to provide animal sheltering services. We are an open admission shelter and do not turn animals away due to medical or behavioral needs. We work diligently to save the lives of all the adoptable animals in our care. We also work with the community to help increase pet retention. We are a drop off location for transport to the local spay/neuter clinic.

Meet Rookie

Little man Rookie is around 1 year old. He came to us from a rescue situation and is a nervous little boy. He will take some extra time to open up and may require a couple of meet and greets to help him feel comfy. He is working hard on trusting the staff here at the shelter and is starting to open up little by litte. We feel he would do best in a home with experienced dog owners as he has been under socialized and is very fearful of new people and new things. We are unsure of him with children and would want the entire family to come to the meet and greet. He has previously lived with other animals such as cats, dogs, rabbits and reptiles. If you have any cats in the home, super slow and patient introductions will be best to allow everyone time to decompress. If you have any pups in the home we will require a dog test. Adoption Process
Interested adopters must fill out an adoption application. We verify that current pets are UTD on Rabies vaccinations and spayed or neutered. If the applicants rent we verify with the landlord that they are approved to adopt a pet. Adopters must fill out an adoption contract and sterilization agreement if the pet is not already altered. Pets that are not altered can only be adopted out to residents of Warren County or a surrounding jurisdiction. The adoption fee for cats is $15 and the fee for dogs is $30. The adoption fee does not include the cost of spay or neuter. If the animal is not altered adopters are required to have the pet altered within 30 days of adoption or by the time it reaches 6 months old.
