Meet Blue (VA)
Blue, an uncommon "blue," or silver-colored, 15-lb. rat terrier, was purchased as a puppy from a breeder six years ago. Over time, Blue's family grew to include children, and their noisy energy made poor Blue quite anxious. The adults decided that Blue deserved better and asked New Rattitude for help. Initially wary of his new foster parents, Blue was soon seeking them out for snuggles, walks, and games of fetch with squeaky tennis balls. He's got a good energy level along with a snooze button for when you just want to relax and binge-watch TV. He defers to the other similarly sized dog in his home, and when he's finished eating (a beloved task accomplished quickly), he respects her space as she finishes her meal. Blue has also been friendly to other dogs with private introductions in a fenced area, but he seems uncomfortable if they're overly interested in him. He would prefer that they move along to the next thing and hasn't shown interest in playing with them. Nevertheless, he would probably enjoy another calm dog as a companion in his new home. Blue can stay alone in the house for at least five hours without any mischief but hasn't been tested for longer periods. He's house-trained with regular opportunities to go out, and he walks well on a leash for all of his exercise, never refusing an invitation for a stroll. At bedtime, Blue sleeps quietly in the bed under the covers all night. Blue-coated dogs can have skin issues, so Blue gets fish oil supplements. His skin can be sensitive to touch, so you'll have to let him decide when he wants pets and belly rubs. When he's had enough touching, he'll give a low growl, and he'll give you time to respect that request. He shouldn't live with small children or anyone who can't honor his requests for space. But for those who can, we think blue is the perfect color for you! See Blue's photo album at https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/blue .
