ROOSTER NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Rooster Best Guess for Breed: Wirehaired terrier and pointer mix Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of May 2025 Gender: Male Approximate Weight: 43 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment. Special Adoption Considerations: Rooster is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Rooster is Looking For: A forever home! Indoors. A human house, not a chicken house. And romps in parks and world exploration by his new humans' side! This cutie is eager to burn off all that young-dog energy and make pup and people pals along the way. Exploring all the toys to see what he likes best - ropes for tug? Squeaky plushies to chew on? Balls for fetch? Let's find out! And dog school, too, so he can show how super fast he learns. Most of all, though, he wants to know where he belongs, to be safe and loved. In exchange he promises so many adoring gazes and tail wags - and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Is Rooster the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has spent time in a foster home. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
