WIZARD NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Wizard Best Guess for Breed: German Shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of May 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 73 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Right now: A shelter in Texas 30 miles from the Mexican border. Going to the Lucky Dog rescue campus on 5/17 for heartworm treatment, and then the DC area! Special adoption considerations: Wizard is a truly Lucky Dog. Although he has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process. Wizard is Looking For: This boy is Wizard because he's enchanting. An all-around awesome dog. If you know German shepherds, you know they're smart, loyal (Velcro dogs!) and energetic. He's looking for humans who want a smart pup eager for training and tasks. Who will provide structure and intellectual and physical enrichment through world exploration and mental challenges. And most of all, who will show him he's loved and cherished. In exchange, they get a loving, highly intelligent, loyal companion who will be by their side every possible minute. What do you say? Is Wizard the magic you've been looking for? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has spent some time in foster care Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
