Central Virginia Regional Rescue

My name is Laura and I am the president of CVRR. For 5 years I was the dog coordinator and board member for the Humane Society for Campbell County, where we had one of the largest and most respected foster-care-based rescues in the region. I have been a veterinary technician for 15 years. I have also been a trainer and behaviorist for 10+ years. My volunteers and I pulled away from HSCC because of a varying value system and different long-term goals, to create an organization based on a totally volunteer-run administration where every dollar goes to the animals' care. Educational outreach is also of paramount importance. Rescue has been a huge part of my life and my family's life, and we love having the opportunity to not only help animals get a well-deserved second chance but also play a part in completing a family with a new furry addition. Many volunteers in the rescue world I have found are very much animal people, but I enjoy the human aspect nearly as much as the opportunity to advocate for animals.

Meet Luca

Meet Luca, the Adventure-Loving Cuddlebug! At just 11 months old and weighing 30 lbs, Luca is a bundle of joy whose love for life is absolutely contagious! When he first arrived at his foster home, he was a shy, cautious little soul. But oh, how he has flourished! Luca has transformed into the ultimate cuddlebug, eager to snuggle up and share his unending love and affection. Previously timid with the leash, Luca now bounds forward with newfound confidence, eagerly awaiting his daily explorations. His zest for life and boundless curiosity make every walk an adventure. Whether frolicking in a spacious yard catching frisbees or play-wrestling with a canine pal, Luca is happiest when active and involved in family activities. Though a bit reserved around new faces, Luca quickly warms up to become a loving lap dog once he feels secure. For this reason, a home with another friendly dog — perhaps even his foster brother, Enzo — would be ideal for him. Luca’s sociable nature shines brightest in the company of his canine friends! Luca isn’t just about outdoor escapades; he’s equally content to stay indoors, showering his humans with affection and delighting in his toy collection. His gentle demeanor makes him a perfect companion for children, with whom he is always careful and sweet. He would be the perfect family dog, for children to “grow up with.” One of Luca’s charming features is his adorable short, docked tail — a hint at a fascinating breed mix that we would be eager to uncover with a DNA test. If you're seeking a devoted, playful, friendly and loyal companion who is as enthusiastic about adventure as he is about snuggle time, Luca is your boy. Come meet him and let the adventures begin! Luca has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heart worm tested, dewormed and is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. He is ready to find his forever home!  * This dog's adoption fee is $275

Adoption Process
We have an extensive application process where veterinary references are checked (we require all current and past animals have been altered and that the client shows a history of good vet care) and we has a number of questions targeted at encouraging the adopting family to really consider if they are ready financially and emotionally to support an animal life long. We also try to match the right animal with the right home with consideration to the adopters previous animal experience, energy level, and general personality. After reviewing and approving and applicant (on paper), we meet with them and all members of their house hold including other resident dogs. We offer one week trials to ensure this decision is in the best interest of both human and animal. If all parties are confident upon meeting, then we have a contract which also states that if any anytime they are unable to keep the animal, that they will return in to our organization. Adoption fees vary from $100-275 based on age, size, and breed, with $175 as an average.
