Central Virginia Regional Rescue

My name is Laura and I am the president of CVRR. For 5 years I was the dog coordinator and board member for the Humane Society for Campbell County, where we had one of the largest and most respected foster-care-based rescues in the region. I have been a veterinary technician for 15 years. I have also been a trainer and behaviorist for 10+ years. My volunteers and I pulled away from HSCC because of a varying value system and different long-term goals, to create an organization based on a totally volunteer-run administration where every dollar goes to the animals' care. Educational outreach is also of paramount importance. Rescue has been a huge part of my life and my family's life, and we love having the opportunity to not only help animals get a well-deserved second chance but also play a part in completing a family with a new furry addition. Many volunteers in the rescue world I have found are very much animal people, but I enjoy the human aspect nearly as much as the opportunity to advocate for animals.

Meet Sassy (Courtesy Post)

This smart, sweet girl is ready to steal your heart — and maybe your snacks! Sassy LOVES attention, toys, and making you laugh with her adorable chatter. (Seriously, she makes the cutest little noises when she wants to go outside or ask for a treat!) She’s a total social butterfly who gets along great with other dogs (she lives with two male pups right now!) and would thrive in a home where she’s part of the action — not tucked away or left alone. Sassy deserves a family who will love on her, work with her, and celebrate how incredibly bright and lovable she is. And just wait until you see her precious little overbite — when she flashes those tiny bottom teeth at you, it’s game over!  If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick who will keep you smiling, Sassy is your girl!  **Sassy was not getting along with the other female in the home, but loves everyone else--including the male dogs (and cats) in the home. We would recommend a home with male dogs or as an only dog. ** Sassy is up to date on all vaccines, flea/tick meds, and she is spayed. We have vet records we can share.  CVRR is listing this dog as a COURTESY to the actual owner. This dog is not currently in the care of CVRR, and CVRR makes no representations or guarantees for the animal's behavior, demeanor, or health assessment. All information listed has been given by the dog's current owner and should be verified by any interested potential adopter.

Adoption Process
We have an extensive application process where veterinary references are checked (we require all current and past animals have been altered and that the client shows a history of good vet care) and we has a number of questions targeted at encouraging the adopting family to really consider if they are ready financially and emotionally to support an animal life long. We also try to match the right animal with the right home with consideration to the adopters previous animal experience, energy level, and general personality. After reviewing and approving and applicant (on paper), we meet with them and all members of their house hold including other resident dogs. We offer one week trials to ensure this decision is in the best interest of both human and animal. If all parties are confident upon meeting, then we have a contract which also states that if any anytime they are unable to keep the animal, that they will return in to our organization. Adoption fees vary from $100-275 based on age, size, and breed, with $175 as an average.
