Central Virginia Regional Rescue

My name is Laura and I am the president of CVRR. For 5 years I was the dog coordinator and board member for the Humane Society for Campbell County, where we had one of the largest and most respected foster-care-based rescues in the region. I have been a veterinary technician for 15 years. I have also been a trainer and behaviorist for 10+ years. My volunteers and I pulled away from HSCC because of a varying value system and different long-term goals, to create an organization based on a totally volunteer-run administration where every dollar goes to the animals' care. Educational outreach is also of paramount importance. Rescue has been a huge part of my life and my family's life, and we love having the opportunity to not only help animals get a well-deserved second chance but also play a part in completing a family with a new furry addition. Many volunteers in the rescue world I have found are very much animal people, but I enjoy the human aspect nearly as much as the opportunity to advocate for animals.

Meet Luca

Luca is a 11-month-old (30lbs) sweet boy who loves life! He came to his foster home very cautious and shut down. He was timid on a leash, but has gained a lot of confidence and now loves his daily walks! He has such a happy energy and loves to explore. Luca would do amazing in a home where he could participate in family activities and live an active lifestyle. He would love a large yard where he could catch a frisbee or wrestle with another K9 companion. Luca has learned to trust his foster family, but is sometimes nervous around new people. His adoptive home would ideally have other dogs and take Luca on lots of adventures to assist him in continuing to gain confidence. He loves all other dogs he meets and is excellent with his foster family's children. Luca has the cutest short docked tail and we would love to DNA test him to see what his exact breed mix is.  Luca absolutely loves other dogs and would love to be adopted with his foster brother, Enzo. Luca has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heart worm tested, dewormed and is on flea/tick prevention. He is ready to find his forever home!  * This dog's adoption fee is $275

Adoption Process
We have an extensive application process where veterinary references are checked (we require all current and past animals have been altered and that the client shows a history of good vet care) and we has a number of questions targeted at encouraging the adopting family to really consider if they are ready financially and emotionally to support an animal life long. We also try to match the right animal with the right home with consideration to the adopters previous animal experience, energy level, and general personality. After reviewing and approving and applicant (on paper), we meet with them and all members of their house hold including other resident dogs. We offer one week trials to ensure this decision is in the best interest of both human and animal. If all parties are confident upon meeting, then we have a contract which also states that if any anytime they are unable to keep the animal, that they will return in to our organization. Adoption fees vary from $100-275 based on age, size, and breed, with $175 as an average.
