Central Virginia Regional Rescue

My name is Laura and I am the president of CVRR. For 5 years I was the dog coordinator and board member for the Humane Society for Campbell County, where we had one of the largest and most respected foster-care-based rescues in the region. I have been a veterinary technician for 15 years. I have also been a trainer and behaviorist for 10+ years. My volunteers and I pulled away from HSCC because of a varying value system and different long-term goals, to create an organization based on a totally volunteer-run administration where every dollar goes to the animals' care. Educational outreach is also of paramount importance. Rescue has been a huge part of my life and my family's life, and we love having the opportunity to not only help animals get a well-deserved second chance but also play a part in completing a family with a new furry addition. Many volunteers in the rescue world I have found are very much animal people, but I enjoy the human aspect nearly as much as the opportunity to advocate for animals.

Meet Enzo

Enzo is an old soul who has the sweetest disposition. His eyes show his deep desire for connection with humans. He has come so far since being in his foster home. He was pulled from a local shelter who rescued him from a life on his own, having very little human contact as a young puppy. Enzo trusts and loves other dogs very much and is learning not all humans wish to cause him harm. He is attached to his foster family (adults and children) and trusts them. Despite his days being full of learning new things, he has been so sweet and patient considering everything is a new experience. Enzo initially did not like being put on a leash, but after taking long daily leash walks with his foster family, he has come to love them and walks with his tail held high.  Enzo would love to have a K9 companion and is very close to his foster brother, Luca. They would love to be adopted together.  Enzo's pictures are deceiving. He is a petite guy at only 40lbs. Enzo is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, tested heartworm negative and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.  * This dog's adoption fee is $275

Adoption Process
We have an extensive application process where veterinary references are checked (we require all current and past animals have been altered and that the client shows a history of good vet care) and we has a number of questions targeted at encouraging the adopting family to really consider if they are ready financially and emotionally to support an animal life long. We also try to match the right animal with the right home with consideration to the adopters previous animal experience, energy level, and general personality. After reviewing and approving and applicant (on paper), we meet with them and all members of their house hold including other resident dogs. We offer one week trials to ensure this decision is in the best interest of both human and animal. If all parties are confident upon meeting, then we have a contract which also states that if any anytime they are unable to keep the animal, that they will return in to our organization. Adoption fees vary from $100-275 based on age, size, and breed, with $175 as an average.
