Meet Yoatzin

LOCATION: Ft Worth, TXDOB: 08/06/2023Meet Yoatzin, our “little warrior” with the biggest heart. When he first arrived from the shelter in Pflugerville, TX, this sweet boy was heartbreakingly thin—just 56 pounds and clearly used to fending for himself. But with the love of an amazing foster family, good food, and plenty of care, Yoatzin has blossomed into a happy, healthy, 90-pound lovebug who’s discovering what it means to be safe and adored.Yoatzin is one of those dogs who seems to melt right into your life. He loves everyone he meets, always ready for a snuggle, a nap, or some attention. He’s a total lap dog at heart and will happily sleep beside you or curl up on the couch if you need a little space. He’s also a smart boy—he knows sit, shake, and lay down, uses the doggy door like a pro, and has never had an accident in the house. He’s earned the title of one of his foster’s easiest (and favorite!) dogs out of thirty fosters!He’s got a moderate energy level, enjoying walks and playtime but also knowing when to settle down for a good snooze. On walks, he’s curious and wants to sniff everything but doesn’t pull hard. He rides great in the car and does well with free roam of the house, even when left alone for a few hours. He’s crate-trained, though he’d much prefer your company to a kennel any day.Yoatzin lives peacefully with another Great Dane and does wonderfully meeting other dogs out and about. He’s gentle with kids and loves the attention from upper elementary and teenage visitors who stop to say hello. Cats are an unknown, but he’s shown no reactivity to other animals through the fence.Like any good rescue story, Yoatzin still has a few quirks—he’s very enthusiastic about mealtime (it’s understandable, given his past) and will happily help himself to counter snacks if you’re not paying attention. He also gets a little anxious when left behind, crying for a bit before settling down.Yoatzin’s ideal home would be with an active, loving family who will include him in their everyday life. He’d love kids to play with, a comfy spot to nap, and people who will cherish him the way he deserves.
