SRGDRR Inc aka Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue and Rehab

SRGDRR is a 100% volunteer organization. Like all humane groups, SRGDRR is in the unique position of helping both humans and pets. In our case, the pets are Great Danes and Great Dane Mixes, and the people are those who have or want the companionship of the breed or, often, just dogs in general. SRGDRR helps people to:Determine the right breed of dog for their lifestyle.Find healthy and companionable dogs that fit their circumstances.Find loving replacement homes for Danes they can no longer keep.Become knowledgeable about the care and training of their Great Danes.Resolve their Danes physical/behavioral problem.Overcome the grief at the loss of their loved pet.Stretch their tax dollar by assuming the Dane burden from public shelters.SRGDRR helps Danes:By providing for the rescue and care of those who have been abandoned, neglected, and/or abused by their previous owners.We spay/neuter and provide medical treatment as necessary to return the Dane back to good health.We also supply training/socialization to ensure their adaptability to new, good homes.We work to place rescue Danes to people who provide secure, loving, and healthy homes.SRGDRR spends an average of $300 per dog that enters our rescue. In order for us to continue providing the best care and vetting for these babies, we need donations and adoptions. Thank you all so very much.

LOCATION: Wilmington, NCDOB: 12/07/2023Meet Odin, a 1.5-year-old blue Great Dane who’s as affectionate as he is striking. Odin is neutered, up to date on vetting, and will be placed as foster-to-adopt while we complete the remainder of his care.Odin is currently in a home where he’s developed some resource guarding behavior around one specific person. For the well-being of both Odin and his family, they’ve made the difficult decision to find him a more suitable environment. When he’s not feeling the need to guard, Odin is a loving, gentle, and playful dog who wants nothing more than to be close to his people.We’re looking for a foster or adopter within one hour of Fayetteville, NC, where a professional dog trainer has offered to help work through his guarding behavior. Odin needs someone who understands Danes and has experience with or is open to learning about resource guarding.Odin is housebroken, muzzle trained, and does great in the car. He shares toys well and has shown no signs of food aggression. He enjoys the company of other dogs—he’s curious but a bit timid—so he would likely do best with a calm, submissive canine companion. He hasn’t met cats, so we’re unsure how he’d do with them. Because of his guarding behavior, Odin needs an adult-only home.His ideal home would be calm and structured, with clear rules and a patient, experienced owner who can help him feel safe and confident. Odin thrives with consistency and kindness. He’s incredibly affectionate and loves to lean in for full-body cuddles. He’s also playful—he enjoys yard time, goofy games of keep away, and being part of the action.Odin is a truly special dog with so much love to give. With the right person, he’s going to be an amazing companion.
