New Rattitude, Inc.

New Rattitude is a national, all-volunteer non-profit rescue/adoption agency whose mission is to rescue Rat Terriers (and mixes that are predominantly Rat Terrier) from imminent death at animal shelters, the streets, abusive/neglectful homes, or from owners who can no longer keep a dog, and to rehome the dogs into new and permanent, screened and approved adoptive homes. Each dog rescued is cared for in a safe and nurturing foster care environment where he or she receives appropriate medical care, a high quality diet, training and socialization. To achieve these ends, the organization is involved with transportation, volunteer recruiting and training, mentoring, fund-raising, and establishing and maintaining other programs deemed helpful to achieving the mission of rescuing and re-homing Rat Terriers.

Meet Nickajack (TN)

Nickajack almost didn't return from his recent neuter surgery because the vet clinic staff all fell in love with the friendly rat terrier and wanted to keep him! His alert curiosity and his sweet, affectionate nature endear him to everyone who meets him. Although he weighs just 11 lbs., 2-year-old Nick seems bigger because of his peppy bounce, agility, and enthusiasm for life. He is eager to greet new dogs--sometimes a bit more eager than another dog might appreciate--and has no problem with cats, but his real love is for humans, particularly those who will interact with him and offer pats and affection. He lists his many skills on his resume: riding calmly in a car, crating easily, sleeping peacefully at night, walking eagerly on leash, not chewing inappropriately, sitting on request (although the butt-to-ground touch may be very brief), having good health, and being a super snuggler. Apart from some initial marking of his new territory, his house-training has also been good, as he clearly knows that pottying is for outside. Currently Nick is working on perfecting his response to "stay," learning to use a dog door, and settling down more quickly when newcomers come into "his" space. See lots more photos and some videos of Nickajack in his online album at www.ImageEvent.com/beales/fosters/nickajack .
