Cumberland County Animal Shelter

Cumberland County Animal Shelter houses approximately 2000 animals every year. They have a small staff of a shelter Director and two full-time employees with the rest of the staff made up of part-timers who come and go. As a private, retired citizen, The shelter director has authorized me to go into the shelter five days a week to photograph animals to post at online adoption sites. I add, edit and then delete animals when they have been adopted or are no longer available. Because they do not have a large enough staff to handle this type of work, I am able to do it for the shelter, mostly from my home, as a free service.

Meet ATLAS

Cuteness abounds! ATLAS thinks that he is as big as the whole wide world! He has energy and playfulness to fill awhole room. Maybe even a whole house! This young fellow is on top of the world and thinks that the shelter is a great place to be while waiting for a new home. He arrived in early June 2025 and is listed as a mixture of boxer and labrador. Staff estimated him at 4 to 5 months of age and he weighed 22 pounds at Intake. He is brindle with white markings and he is a very smart little fella who already knows how to “sit.” ATLAS has not yet been neutered, though. That must be done before he can go home with you as your own. Serious adopters are encouraged to CALL the shelter to schedule an adoption appointment. Staff can explain the adoption procedures and fees when you call. The shelter does require EXACT change in the form of cash or a check. The shelter is UNABLE to accept credit or debit. So, please go prepared!

Adoption Process
Adoption contract, Adoption fee of $50 per cat and $80 per dog set by county commission and subject to change, drivers license and cash or check only. The adoption fees currently cover most, but not all, of the spay/neuter cost incurred by the county.
