Meet DIXIE (Spayed!)
As you can imagine, there are so many dogs to choose from at the shelter! So many different breed mixes and so many different color combinations. Here is DIXIE. She is listed as a mixture of cattle dog and mountain cur. Her age is estimated at 10 months. This young lady arrived at the shelter in mid May 2025 and is currently hanging out in a large dog crate in their hallway at the time of this posting. She is adorable and friendly and just one of the many, many dogs available at the shelter that desperately need to find a loving person or family to call their own. If you are looking for a new friend or family member, hopefully both, be sure to consider this girl for adoption. Thanks to a partnership between UT and Cumberland County Animal Shelter, DIXIE was spayed on Tuesday, June 3. As a result, she can go home the same day that she is adopted. So, serious adopters are encouraged to CALL the shelter to schedule an adoption appointment. Staff can explain the adoption procedures and fees when you call. The shelter does require EXACT change in the form of cash or a check. The shelter is UNABLE to accept credit or debit. So, please go prepared! That includes taking a dog collar and leash with you to the adoption appointment in case you do decide to adopt DIXIE or one of the other spayed or neutered dogs currently at the shelter. Even better, take a dog crate with you to that appointment. No animal should be allowed to run freely in any vehicle. Especially an animal that you have just adopted! Safety first!
Adoption Process
Adoption contract, Adoption fee of $50 per cat and $80 per dog set by county commission and subject to change, drivers license and cash or check only. The adoption fees currently cover most, but not all, of the spay/neuter cost incurred by the county.
