  Meet Maggie May – A Sweet, Independent Soul Looking for a Fresh Start   At 7 years young, Maggie May is a beautiful Heeler mix with a wise heart, gentle eyes, and a nose that’s always ready for a good sniff. Originally adopted from a shelter after likely raising more than her fair share of litters, Maggie is now looking for a better fit — a home that truly understands her needs and respects her boundaries.   Maggie is the kind of dog who values connection but also independence. She loves pets and scratches, but on her terms — when she’s had enough, she’ll politely walk away like the classy lady she is. She’s not clingy or overly needy, but when she trusts you, her quiet loyalty speaks volumes.   She loves her walks and takes her time exploring the world through her nose, making her the perfect companion for someone who enjoys a good stroll and doesn’t mind stopping to smell the roses (or fire hydrants). On walks, Maggie is well-mannered, and she’s been calm and friendly around children, happily accepting gentle pets without fuss.   She’s not particularly social with other dogs, and larger dogs can make her nervous — she may bark at them, but it’s more about insecurity than aggression. Maggie would do best as the only pet in a calm household where she doesn’t feel the pressure to mingle with other animals.   Currently weighing 33.8 pounds (as of 4/28/25), she’s a healthy girl with up-to-date vaccinations and a lot of life left to live. What she needs now is a younger, patient, and understanding person — someone who sees her not as a project, but as a partner.
