Almost Home Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization made up solely of volunteers. Our primary purpose is to rescue mistreated or homeless animals and place them in loving environments. We hope to bring about a significant change in the treatment of all animals through educational programs and by working closely with other rescue organizations and sanctuaries.Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation. No animal is expendable! We strive to give animals the safe and happy life they deserve.

Meet Gunnar

Gunnar is a 5 year old terrier mixed with chihuahua, lab, etc., according to a DNA test. He is about 35 lbs. and a very healthy and athletic boy. Gunnar gets along great with other dogs. He is a little nippy but he's not aggressive and does not bite. He must have some herder dog in him. He is working on this. He is a mouther and likes your fingers in his mouth. Gunnar makes a very funny face with his lips curled up in a growl with a big smile on his face, while he is wagging all over. When he squints his eyes at you, he has absolutely the sweetest face ever. No way you do not laugh a lot around him. Gunnar is very affectionate and playful. He is a velcro boy and cannot get close enough for cuddles. The other foster in his home is Bruce. They are having a blast running and playing together, especially in the snow. Mom has to keep calling them in to warm up. The older dogs just growl at him and he backs off. There are no food aggression or social issues. He warms up quickly to new people even though, he is a little shy at first. Gunnar is up-to-date on vetting, crate trained, and housetrained. He knows basic commands and minds very well. He does not need to be crated and prefers to sleep on the bed with you. Very close, of course, and other dogs are fine. If you would like more information on Gunnar or would like to adopt him, please contact Judy at [email protected] or 865-300-8146. Adoption fee is $100. Adoption process includes a contract, home visit, and one-week trial period.
