Dakota Dachshund Rescue

Diane started doing fostering at the Sioux Falls Humane Society and then Pet Pals for Life. She had a passion for dachshunds. We noticed that the Sioux Falls area had a need for a dachshund rescue so her and I (Doug) started DDR. The response and need was much greater than we anticipated.

I am fully house trained. I love to play fetch with my pink ball, really any toy, but my pink ball is my favorite!I love and require walks daily. I am a fabulous walker with my harness and leash, but I am dog and people reactive. I'm slowly getting a bit better, but will need someone to continue appropriately correcting my bad behavior. I will require a fenced yard so I can run and burn off all this energy. I need to be an only dog. I am tolerating my foster fur siblings, but I have to be closely watched as I am possessive of all toys. I lived with cats in my previous home and my foster home has cats, I don't bother them, although, my foster mom is still cautious.I would do best with teenagers and adults, I do not like quick movements or loud noises. Truthfully, I don't like people in my face and get a bit snippy if you don't respect my boundaries. I am sweet and love being scratched. I'll give you kisses on my terms. Think of me like a moody teenager. Apartment dwelling is NOT my jam! I'm extremely talkative! Especially when I am expressing my distaste for being left alone. Someone at the door, I'll be sure to let you know! A leaf blew by, I'm protecting the house from it!I have been learning about kenneling - I hate it. I tend to be destructive while in my kennel. Beds, blankets, etc, don't stand a chance. If I'm left out, I get into whatever I can, to occupy my time, the garbage included. I suffer from severe anxiety. I am currently on Thunder Wunder chews and just had my first rubbing of T-Away oil. The jury is still out. Eventually, if natural remedies don't work, I think I may need to be medicated by a vet to help me find my zen!I like to be with my people, what can I say. I'll need a strong and committed leader that will set and hold me accountable to the boundaries they set.I'm a puppy in a 5 year old body energy wise, just potty trained! Look at how stinking cute I am! Of course I have gotten away in the past with my unacceptable behavior. With structure and boundaries I know I will thrive! I'm neutered and had my dental  I can do stairs and jump on the furniture, although, any knowledgeable dachshund owner knows, those are no-no's. It wouldn't hurt to enroll me in training classes. I know how to sit, lay down, and come. Come, well, that is hit or miss unless you have my pink ball in hand. Up for a challenge? I'm it! I promise you, I am worth it. Plus, you'll be sure to get your steps in trying to wear me out.I am 5 yrs old, I weigh 10 pounds, my adoption fee is $350 plus sales tax $15.75=$365.75My adoption fee helps cover all of my vetting needs such as HW test, rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, neuter and dental.

Adoption Process
Usually we are contacted by a SD shelter about a dachshund that is not doing well (nipping etc.) and that they are going to be put down. We take them in get them vetted and then place them up for adoption after they have been evaluated. We also take calls from folks who have called their local shelter about there dachshund that may have started nipping at small children etc and are told the dog would be put down. We also take calls from other rescues about breeder dogs.
