Rutherford County Humane Society

The purpose of the Rutherford County Humane Society is to strengthen and protect the relationship between humans and companion animals and to foster the welfare of the dog and cat population of Rutherford County. Our number one goal is to promote and assist in spay/neuter to prevent the births and subsequent euthanasia of hundreds of unwanted animals. We also aim to prevent cruelty and abuse by active Humane Education.The Rutherford County Humane Society was founded and obtained tax-exempt,501(C)(3) status in 1976, with the present chapter operating since 1993. We are licensed by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture to operate a small adoption center that can house only cats. Presently there are 22 active volunteers and 98 supporting members in our group. We have a seven member Board of Directors who serve for three-year periods and a slate of officers who are elected on a yearly basis.

Meet Cecil

Cecil is a neutered Fox/feist Terrier mix born about July of 2024. He loves other dogs and children—his foster Mom has 3.5-year-old twins, and he is great with them. He is a wiggly, active puppy, but not hyper House trained, though foster is active and they take him out often. He learned to sit very quickly, he’s highly trainable. Cecil is not a big barker, is healthy, and has no behavioral issues. He’s up to date on vaccinations and is in line to be neutered. Adoption fee $95. This covers the cost of spay/neuter, DHPP, Rabies, Flea, tick, heart worm check, worm treatment, and microchip. To adopt, you need to first fill out an application. Go to: https://rutherfordcountyhumanesociety.org/dog-adoption-application/ We are located in Western North Carolina.     Optional transport is weekly.  After your application is approved, we will contact you regarding cost and delivery if you so desire.  

Adoption Process
Complete and submit a dog or cat adoption application online from our Website. Our volunteers will then review the application, and contact the adoptee if approved. Then the adoptee will need to complete and submit the Pet Adoption Contract, and pay for the adoption.
