Second Chance Companions

We are an all-volunteer organization, started in 1993 dedicated to helping animals in SW Washington and the Portland Metro area. We have a small number of foster homes that take in dogs/cats (and sometimes other small animals) and no central facility, but we also work as a referral service for private owners who are looking for homes for their pets (we do the screening for them and also provide education to try to encourage them to keep their pets, when possible). We have a low-cost spay/neuter program for the public to try to try to curb pet overpopulation. We also work with our local Meals on Wheels program to provide pet food to Meals on Wheels recipients, individuals in assisted living and senior facilities, and area food banks. When we have the funds, we also provide emergency medical assistance to individuals.

Meet Winnie

Winnie, a 1 year old Great Pyrenees and German Shepherd mix, is looking for a new home. Sadly, she keeps wandering off to visit the neighbors even though the owners have tried everything to keep her at home, she seems to find a way through or over the fence and they just can't stop her. She's very sweet and loves the kids she lives with and everyone else she meets, but she needs a fenced yard that can actually contain her so she's not wandering off. She does need spayed and that will be included in her adoption donation. While she has never been a "house dog" she does not have accidents in the garage where she is kept overnight but waits until released to take care of business so it's probable that she would do the same if kept in the house. Since she is a GP mix she would probably do well guarding the yard from intruders such as squirrels and other critters, but would not be a good fit for a yard with free-roaming chickens and has been known to chase cats. If you have a secure yard and are interested in meeting this sweet girl please fill out an adoption application (no cost or obligation to you) on our website and we'll set up a connection with the owner. Her adoption donation will be $300 and will include her spay.

Adoption Process
Adoption application, vet/personal references checked, adoption contract must be signed, animals spayed/neutered. Adoption donations: Dogs: Puppies (6 months and younger): $150 Dogs over 6 months: $100 Exceptions: Purebred: Starting at $250 Senior or Medical Issues: $60 Cats: Kittens (6 months and younger): $100 Cats over 6 months: $50 Exceptions: Purebred: $150 Senior or Medical Issues: $35
