Meet Nikki
Name: NikkiAge: 1-2 years oldWeight: 25 poundsPersonality: Nikki is the epitome of the saying "a dog is man's best friend." She came to Paws Across Pittsburgh from a shelter in West Virginia, where she was depressed and had stopped eating. For Nikki, having human interaction is even more important than having food and shelter. Needless to say her love language revolves around touch and quality time, making her a perfect companion for someone seeking a close bond with their furry friend. She is her foster mom's shadow and needs to keep an eye on her (or constantly touching if possible). Likes: Nikki adores trips to the dog park, where she can mingle with her doggie pals. She's never met a human or a dog she didn't love and turns every stranger into a friend. This social butterfly is incredibly attuned to emotions and the energy around her, though this can sometimes lead to overstimulation, causing her to jump and "mouth" playfully. She's improving with reminders to sit and give kisses instead. She loves squeaky toys and is able to channel that "mouthiness" by chewing on bones (both are a must in her forever home). Intelligence and Activities: Nikki is a smart cookie who loves showcasing her agility and learning new tricks like jumping through hoops at the dog park. She thrives on mental stimulation and would be a great fit for an owner who enjoys teaching and engaging with their pup. She's also a fan of car rides, hikes, walks, and a game of fetch with balls or squeaky toys. This girl plays "hard" but loves to cuddle even harder! NIkki can entertain herself when needed with bones, toys or laying out in the sun whenever her foster mom needs to get work done.Training: While Nikki is working on leash manners (she gets excited when she spots bunnies!), she's making so much progress. She's also learning to communicate her bathroom needs using a bell or standing by the door to be let out. Her forever family should keep her on potty schedule and continue to positively reinforce potty breaks outside. Nikki is also crate trained, although she might softly whine a bit before settling in. With the combination of positive reinforcement and treats, this girl can learn anything. Ideal Home: Nikki would thrive in a home where she can receive plenty of quality time and companionship. Her ideal day involves playtime, learning new tricks, outdoor adventures, and snuggle sessions (she cuddles like a human does - forget laying at your feet- she'll be on top of you or curled up next you). The ideal home for Nikki would have a yard (or active parents that will take her with them on excursions). She's a loving, loyal companion looking for a forever family to call her own. Medical: Nikki is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, and in good health. If you're interested in meeting Nikki and think she'd be a great addition to your family, please reach out to learn more!Nikki is spayed and up to date on all required vaccinations, and she will be available for adoption on or after 4/21/2024 through Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, PA KL# 16182.
