Hi folks, I'm Abner. Folks around here tell me I'm a ruggedly handsome mountain cur mix, whatever that means. The doc said I'm still a pup, maybe 9 months old and 35 lbs and nearly full grown. Then he put me to sleep and next thing you know I wake up without my "family jewels". Rude. I love other dogs and love to play. The people I met before I came to this rescue place weren't always nice to me, but everyone here has been so nice and they keep me warm and safe and fed. They introduced me to toys, which I LOVE! Turns out people are cool. I just need a little time to get to know you. If you really want to be my best friend, you'll keep a pocket full of treats for me. I would love to find a home with another dog buddy to run with and a physically fenced yard. If you want to meet me, fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org and tell 'em you want to meet Abner. I'll be hanging out at PetSmart Eastgate Saturday noon-2 for something called an adoption event. They say it's fun and I'll meet nice people. All of our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial foster-to-adopt period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care.

Adoption Process
We offer Foster To Adopt for dogs adoptions. You must complete the application, be approved and pay a $100 deposit ($150 puppies). You can then take the dog home for a trial visit of up to one week This will help you determine if you and the dog are the right match. If yes, then you can finalize the adoption. If no, then you return the dog to us and you are welcome to try a different dog. complete the necessary paperwork and pay a $100 deposit for adult dogs and $150 for puppies (cash, check or credit card). This fee is non-refundable, and will be applied to the adoption fee if you decide to finalize the adoption. The adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter surgery, parvo/distemper shots and rabies shots (for dogs over 6 months), deworming, microchipping, flea and tick protection, heartworm testing (for dogs over 6 months), and monthly heartworm protection until the dog gets adopted.
