Freedom German Shepherd Rescue

We are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes. We all work in a variety of disciplines to include medical, financial, animal welfare and corporate. What bonds us is our love for all dogs, specifically German Shepherds. We've all volunteered for other 501c nonprofit rescues and feel the dogs are best served by all of us working together. We all strongly feel that there are too many unwanted, abused and neglected animals that we want to work together, with shelters and the community, to help reduce the epidemic through saving the dogs and educating the public.

Meet Pepe

Need a little more joy (and adorable chaos) in your life? Meet Pepe! Pepe is a 9-month-old, 41 pound, bundle of love, mischief, and wiggles who’s still figuring out this whole “grown-up dog” thing. He’s basically a toddler in a fur coat—sweet, silly, and occasionally convinced he’s a kangaroo. Manners and crate training? He's working on them! He’s super excited to meet new people and may greet you with a full-body jump of joy. But don’t worry—a calm “chhh!” (yes, like Cesar Millan) will help him remember his four-paw landing. Potty training is coming along nicely—he’ll wake you up when nature calls, and he does best with a walk or a buddy hanging outside with him (otherwise, he just lounges by the door like he’s waiting for a limo). Leash walking is still a bit of a dance, but he’s got the moves… sort of. Think of it as “interpretive walking” for now. Oh—and he talks. Standing on two legs and giving you a full puppy TED Talk is his favorite way to express deep thoughts and snack requests.  Pepe came into the rescue a little shy and unsure, probably due to a tough start, but he’s blossoming into a lovebug. He appreciates a little space at first, but once you’re on his level? Get ready for soft eyes, nose boops, and the best cuddle session of your life. He’s great with other dogs and LOVES kids—we’ve tested him with a small senior pup, a big shepherd, and three wild little humans (ages 4–9), and he’s adored them all. He hasn't met any cats yet.  Pepe has a moderate energy level, would love to explore a yard with an at least 4 foot high fence (although a fence is not required) and is just looking for a kind, patient family to show him the good life. Pepe is being fostered outside of Charlotte, NC, and is ready to bounce his way into your heart. Contact your adoption coordinator if you’re ready to meet the most lovable goofball this side of the dog park! If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org .

Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.
