Meet Stevie

Stevie is a 6 lb Maltese. Him & his brother, Sammy, were breeder-release dogs. This adorable little guy gets along well with other small dogs (under 10lbs) and will play off and on all day. Stevie is a smart, sweet dog who love attention but is also content playing tug of war, chase, or wrestling for hours with another dog. He loves attention from his person, especially being in your lap!   Stevie has a heart murmur and could benefit from Vetmedin medication, which slows the progression of heart enlargement and produces a good quality of life.  He does not show any outward signs of heart disease, but whoever adopts him will have to be vigilant and watch for any possible progression. He will require annual (or sooner if needed) cardiac check-ups.  His adopters will need to be able to afford Vetmedin (which he will need to be on for the rest of his life) and heart check-ups.  Heart disease is not uncommon in small dogs, so please read up on it and research the cost of Vetmedin (half of 1.25mg 2x/day).  Stevie will be adopted with 2 bottles of Vetmedin. We prefer adopting him to someone with Maltese experience and a track record of providing the vet care and grooming needed for the rest of his life.  He is pad trained and will need continued training to be fully housebroken. Stevie can easily step through any fence spacing more than 1 ½ inches, so he will need a solid fence or one with wire between the pickets/bars.   The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC and VA. Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, North Carolina to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact [email protected]. There is an application process and adoption fee. An all-adult home (no children or grandchildren) and a yard with a secure fence, 4ft or higher, which is attached to the home is required to adopt from Hart-2-Heart Rescue. An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace, temporary fencing, dog pens or dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. No exceptions. We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business. Veterinary Care: All Hart-2-Heart Rescue foster dogs are spayed/neutered, current on heartworm prevention, parvo/distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccines and are professionally groomed. As needed, our foster dogs have teeth cleanings, extractions, bloodwork and other diagnostic testing. Adoption fee is $450.
