Freedom German Shepherd Rescue

We are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes. We all work in a variety of disciplines to include medical, financial, animal welfare and corporate. What bonds us is our love for all dogs, specifically German Shepherds. We've all volunteered for other 501c nonprofit rescues and feel the dogs are best served by all of us working together. We all strongly feel that there are too many unwanted, abused and neglected animals that we want to work together, with shelters and the community, to help reduce the epidemic through saving the dogs and educating the public.

Meet Reagan

Meet Reagan – A Loyal Heart Ready for a Fresh Start !   Regal in name and noble in spirit, Reagan is a 4-year-old German Shepherd who turns heads with his classic black-and-tan coat and striking 90-pound frame. He’s a big guy with an even bigger heart—and he’s ready to share it with the right family.   Reagan loves the simple joys in life: car rides, pup cups, a good game of fetch (he really loves his ball), and hanging out with his people. He’s equally content entertaining himself with toys or soaking up quality time with his foster family and dog siblings. He’s crate trained, housebroken, walks nicely on leash, and is dog-friendly. Reagan is also good with kids, though older children (10+) are a better match for his size and energy level.  Because this boy can really catch some air when the ball is flying, a secure 6 foot fence is recommended to help keep him safe while he plays. Reagan has been friendly with everyone he has met and is still learning that the world is a safe place although he has a bit of a shadow or light fixation. His past left him a little unsure, especially when approached too quickly. Because of this, he’ll thrive in a home with an experienced handler who can guide him gently and confidently.  Due to his high prey drive, a home without cats is best for Reagan.  With patience, consistency, and lots of love, Reagan will blossom into the loyal, playful, and devoted companion he was always meant to be. Ready to help Reagan write his next chapter? He’s waiting for his forever home—and maybe a game of fetch while he waits.  If you'd like to meet this awesome boy, reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you don’t have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Reagan is being fostered near Wilmington NC.

Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.
