Freedom German Shepherd Rescue

We are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes. We all work in a variety of disciplines to include medical, financial, animal welfare and corporate. What bonds us is our love for all dogs, specifically German Shepherds. We've all volunteered for other 501c nonprofit rescues and feel the dogs are best served by all of us working together. We all strongly feel that there are too many unwanted, abused and neglected animals that we want to work together, with shelters and the community, to help reduce the epidemic through saving the dogs and educating the public.

Meet Ricky

Are you looking for the perfect gentleman? Meet Ricky! This handsome 7 year old, 70 pound guy is ready to be your next best friend. He is house trained, good on the leash, and great with dogs, cats and kids! He is trusted to free roam the house when left alone and generally takes a nap. He enjoys playing with toys, chewing on bones, playing fetch or chasing a frisbee. He is low energy but will match your energy; whether it’s napping on the couch all day or going on a fun adventure, he’s happy to do anything. He is food motivated, knows sit and down. We are working on shake and drop it. He doesn’t bark much (including the doorbell!), does not require a fence and will be fine as an only dog or with others. He happily jumps in the car but he does get nervous and will get car sick sometimes. We’ve been going on short drives and he is doing better, so I believe it will go away with time. He can be a little reserved at first when meeting new people, but quickly turns into an absolute sweetheart and your best friend when you throw him a toy! Interested in making Ricky a part of your family? Reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org. Ricky is being fostered outside of Charlotte.

Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
