Meet Princess

Princess is a 1 ½ yr old, 14lb Shih Tzu. She was originally surrendered to a shelter by her owner and then by a shelter foster family for nipping. H2H was asked to take her into our program to evaluate her and work with her on her manners. When Princess came to us, she was unsure, but she learned to trust after a couple of weeks. We figured out quickly that when she was a puppy, someone used their hands and arms as puppy play toys, which is cute when a puppy is 7 weeks old but painful and annoying when the dog is an adult. We are teaching her that dog toys, not people’s hands or arms, are the appropriate things to play with and put in her mouth.  Princess can get fired up easily and starts to play bite, but with benevolent direction from her foster family, she is learning to stop.   She happily sits next to you, enjoys being petted, and is a great companion. Princess is a sweet dog who is smart and craves direction. Princess is an active, athletic dog who absolutely loves doing zoomies in the fenced-in yard. She is quick and will dart for an open door, so her adoptive home needs to be prepared to manage a young dog inside and around outside doorways. She doesn’t mind being crated and is good at entertaining herself with plush toys. Princess could be an only dog or be fine with another dog around her size in the home.   The ideal home would be with someone who is experienced in dealing with unsure dogs and will continue her training.  She is doing very well on house-training and leash walking. Princess will make a wonderful dog for the person willing to invest some time, energy, and love into her. The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA and East TN. We require an all-adult home (no children or grandchildren who visit regularly) with a securely fenced yard,  attached to the home with NO gaps larger than 2.5 inches. An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace, temporary fencing, dog pens, dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. No exceptions. We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business. Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, NC to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports. Veterinary Care: All Hart-2-Heart Rescue foster dogs are spayed/neutered, current on heartworm prevention, parvo/distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccines and are professionally groomed. As needed, our foster dogs have teeth cleanings, extractions, bloodwork and other diagnostic testing. Adoption Fee:  $500.
