Freedom German Shepherd Rescue

We are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes. We all work in a variety of disciplines to include medical, financial, animal welfare and corporate. What bonds us is our love for all dogs, specifically German Shepherds. We've all volunteered for other 501c nonprofit rescues and feel the dogs are best served by all of us working together. We all strongly feel that there are too many unwanted, abused and neglected animals that we want to work together, with shelters and the community, to help reduce the epidemic through saving the dogs and educating the public.

Meet Denali - Adoption pending

Denali is an approximately two year old, 67-pound, German Shepherd mix. He has been friendly with all of the dogs he has met, both large and small. He is very attentive to his people and is a perfect gentleman. He is curious about the cats he currently lives with but makes no effort to chase them.  He is well mannered with children as he loves to play with his foster parents' grandson. He has a class act demeanor and watches for commands. His current foster home also has enclosed chickens, which he mostly ignores.  He observes, knows his boundaries and is eager to learn and play.  Tug-O-War with ropes and old dish towels is his favorite game and he can’t wait to pull the stuffing out of squeaky toys. While Denali is crate-trained, he is housebroken and is  trusted to free roam when left home alone.  Denali is great riding in a car and seems to enjoy traveling. He is friendly with strangers to include the groomer and veterinarian.  Denali does not pull on leash and obeys commands to sit and lay down. He loves to be under foot while food is being fixed and the dishes and outside chores are being done. His foster mom works from home so he stays right next to her and if he needs to go out, he nudges her leg.  He sleeps by her side of the bed, but really would love to be on the bed.  He has a great appetite and has no issues sharing food.  Denali is a gem of a dog.  He is exciting and loving with a passion to satisfy.  He is a pack-dog and would do best in home with other dogs. Although Denali is not a flight risk, a home with a fenced yard would be ideal so he can roam and play freely.  If you would like to make Denali a part of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Denali is being fostered south of Greensboro.

Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.
