Freedom German Shepherd Rescue

We are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes. We all work in a variety of disciplines to include medical, financial, animal welfare and corporate. What bonds us is our love for all dogs, specifically German Shepherds. We've all volunteered for other 501c nonprofit rescues and feel the dogs are best served by all of us working together. We all strongly feel that there are too many unwanted, abused and neglected animals that we want to work together, with shelters and the community, to help reduce the epidemic through saving the dogs and educating the public.

Meet Chinook

Hi!  I am Chinook!  I am a 12 week old, black and tan German Shepherd mix. I weigh approximately 15 pounds and am growing. Like the helicopter, I am up and ready for any mission that comes my way.  I love adventure, fun and games!  There are tons of fun to be had here at my foster family's farm exploring their big yard and making friends with all the other animals. Playing with my siblings and the older dogs here is so much fun. I would love to have another dog to play with in my furever home, but don't require it as long as I have an active family that will play with me. I try to get the cats to join in, but they quickly tell me NO! and that they don't play puppy games. They are so boring. There are also horses, goats and ferrets as well, but they don't play puppy games either. I do not currently need a fenced in yard, but will need one in the future. My favorite things in life are exploring, eating and then snuggling!  I really LOVE mealtime and will help serenade my foster family with the songs of my pack.  All meals are given in my crate. I think my crate is a great place because every time I go in, there is a meal or treat waiting for me.  It is also a nice place to take a nap and I do sleep in there at night. I am getting better about letting you know when I need to potty but still need help learning house manners. I have not seen kids before, but I think they might be fun and like puppy games, too.If you think I might be a good match for your family, reach out to your adoption coordinator.  If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . I am being fostered near Southern Pines.

Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
