CrisisDogsNC

CrisisDogsNC is a foster-based, 501 (c) (3) non-profit founded in 2017 by journalist and author Judith Reitman Texier whose investigative articles garnered international awards and prompted changes in animal welfare laws. She created the Organization in response to North Carolina’s euthanasia rate which is among the highest in the country and to many of its shelters’ methods of euthanasia that are so inhumane they are outlawed in most other states. We rescue dogs from kill shelters, substandard backyard breeders, hoarders, and from chains. We provide full medical care, foster homes, and transport by land and air through our partnership with PilotsNPaws to fully screened and qualified adopters all along the East Coast. What distinguishes us from other rescues is our focus on the relationship between the rescued dog and the new family. By understanding your lifestyle and expectations, as well as the personalities of our rescue dogs, we can make a compatible match for a lifelong bond. We are in it for the life of the dog. At any point after adoption, if the adopter's situation changes for whatever reason, we will always accept the dog back into the rescue.

Meet Oscar

Meet Oscar – A Sweet, Shy Soul with a Heart Full of Puppy Love! Quick Facts: Name: Oscar Breed: Shih Tzu/Maltese Mix Age: 1 year Weight: 12 lbs House-Trained: Doing well – still working on consistency Crate-Trained: Yes – sleeps well when near people and other dogs Other Pets: Loves other small dogs and does well with big dogs too Good with Kids: Likely yes – but hasn’t been kid-tested Energy Level: Medium – enjoys playtime but is easygoing Special Needs: Car sickness (lots of drooling); needs a fenced yard while learning leash skills Why You’ll Love Oscar: Sweet, submissive, and gentle – just needs a little time to warm up Great with other dogs – especially small ones Enjoys snuggling and following his canine friends around Working hard on housebreaking and leash training Sleeps soundly in his crate when not alone A quiet companion – rarely barks unless necessary About Oscar’s Breed Mix: Shih Tzu/Maltese mixes are known for their affectionate, loyal nature and gentle personalities. These companion breeds thrive in homes where they feel safe, loved, and part of the family. With their soft coats and soulful eyes, they’re both cuddle bugs and charming little characters. Oscar carries all the best traits—he’s tender-hearted, dog-friendly, and happiest when he’s snuggled up next to a friend (furry or human). Oscar’s Story & Personality: Oscar may be shy at first—he startles if touched when he doesn’t see it coming—but once he feels safe, his gentle, loving nature shines through. He absolutely adores other dogs and follows his older foster sibling around the house like a shadow. He loves curling up beside him for naps and even tries to play fetch with the big dogs in the yard! While Oscar is still working on his house and leash training, he’s already making great progress and hasn’t been having accidents in the house. He sleeps peacefully in his crate as long as he’s near people and another dog. His biggest challenge is car rides—he doesn’t vomit, but he does get drooly. With patience and support, he’ll continue to grow into the confident little pup he’s meant to be. Oscar’s Perfect Home: Fenced yard for safe play while leash skills improve Another small or easygoing dog to bond and play with A patient adopter who will let him come out of his shell A home that understands his car sensitivity and can ease him into travel Possibly a home with older, gentle kids Ready to Make Oscar Yours?
