Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas, Inc.

SRC begain in June, 2003 when after being bedridden for more than 4 years with Lupus (SLE) I went into remission. Being able to function again yet not work outside the home, I wanted to give back as I had always been in public service so I started SRC to repay my precious Mini Schnauzer (Chewie) for being such a faithful companion during my time of being bedridden. He had even laid on my head during blinding migraines! Since that time SRC has flourished and we have been blessed to have placed more than 2500 Schnauzers and Honorary Schnauzers in loving adoptive homes! Each one stays in a loving foster home and comes from trauma of horrible conditions! They are so glad to be rescued from the horror of puppy mills and kill facilities and with time and understanding become fantastic pets! SRC also publicly promotes spay/neuter for all animals and works to educate the public on the desperate need for this policy. We work to do micro-chip clinics to help the elderly be able to keep their dogs healthy despite their lack of income. We also work to place adult dogs with senior adoptive parents. I believe this is my calling and plan to spend the remainder of my lifetime in service to this worthy mission.

Meet CHLOE (SRC#2191) North Carolina

My name is  CHLOE, SRC#2191.  I am 7 years old.  My birthdate is January 5, 2016,  and I weigh approximately  24 pounds. I am micro-chipped, have all my vaccinations, been spayed and will be evaluated for 2 weeks by my foster family  who have gone through SRC's approval process.  They own Mariner's Manor so they will be with Chloe constantly and will be able to work with her on a consistent basis.   My foster family is located in Bryson City, NC and they are giving me lots of attention.  I miss my Mom so much and she misses me terribly yet she knows that I was not happy with the situation as it was and I know she loves me enough to let me be adopted by someone who can give me all the attention I really deserve right now.  My Mom would love for the loving adoptive parents that adopt me to let her know how I am doing on occasion because she really was heartbroken when we had to say goodbye! Still she knows what a great Schnauzer I am and that I deserve to have the best possible life even if it cannot be with her.  Chloe (SRC#2191)'s   Story CHOLE with this unique identification number: (SRC# 2191) just came into SRC custody and  care.   She is already fully vetted, so once this dog is evaluated by her foster family she will be prepared for adoption . Her foster family has gone thru our approval process and will work diligently to prepare her for adoption. Chloe lived a grand life with her Mom -- they were so close until years later when she married and then had a baby.  Chloe did not adjust well to sharing her Mom with a toddler and then another baby was on the way.  Chloe does well with other animals as far as we know yet she does not have much patience for toddlers.  Her family now has a baby that is just now able to walk and there is another one on the way so the quiet loving home that Chloe had adjusted to no longer exists.   Chloe's Mom still loves her completely yet she realizes that this is not the family that will make Chloe truly happy. After much soul searching she has decided that the most loving sacrifice that she can make is to let Chloe have an adoptive home closer to what she and Chloe had before.  The current situation is putting a strain on the whole family so the time has come for them to allow Chloe to enjoy a better life with SRC's help.  Very soon, with the help of Chloe's foster parents we will know exactly the type of adoptive home that Chloe will need.  Primarily at this point,  SRC has to request that there be NO young children in Chloe's new home.  She is used to being the only "love" so she probably will want to be the only dog in the family also.   That will be open for interpretation once Chloe is fully evaluated, so please watch her page and we will be more clear on that restriction soon.   Now ready for adoption this dog will be heart-worm negative, de-wormed, vaccinations brought up to date, spayed if not done already, micro-chipped, examined fully by a vet and any necessary medical issues found by this vet will have been addressed. She had a dental in 2020 and her vet felt she did not need another dental at this time so SRC will not be doing a dental on Chloe. It is anticipated that this dog will be released for adoption by the same date as the completion of the Evaluation. The date of release is left to the discretion of the SRC Core Team.   THIS DOG IS BEING FOSTERED IN  BRYSON CITY, NC  AND YOU SHOULD BE WILLING TO DRIVE TO THAT LOCATION IN ORDER TO PICK THE DOG UP  THERE WHEN SHE  IS ADOPTED . Tax-deductible donation requested at time of adoption for this dog is $   400.00       . PLEASE READ PRIOR TO APPLYING Now ready for adoption, this canine will  have been evaluated for at least two weeks by loving SRC foster parents who will be able to give the adoptive parents their opinion about the demeanor of the family companion prior to the adoptive parents finalizing their adoption of this canine.  All our SRC volunteers strive to do this for the well-being of their rescued canine and to assure a successful adoption. It is our worthy mission to assure that each canine rescued by SRC is placed in a loving, stable and permanent home whose family members will treat it as a beloved member of their immediate family. We are prepared to assure that all of  our rescued dogs are in great homes or we will reclaim them if necessary. SRC’s rescued dogs are  placed in foster homes throughout NC, SC, TN, and VA until they are adopted. These same states are  SRC's approved adoption areas  so please do not apply unless you live in one of these states. You must be willing to drive to the dog's foster home in order to adopt the canine. The location of each dog is listed at the bottom of its bio.   BEFORE meeting an SRC dog, you must be approved to adopt by our Placement Team. Our downloadable Adoption Application is on the Homepage of our Website where you may also find our Foster Application and Volunteer Application should you want to use these instead.  Here is the address of our Homepage for you:      https://schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org/       Once you have completed the application, please include your vet medical records along with photos of your home (interior and exterior including your yard) -- these may be used in lieu of a home visit due to the problems with issues with the pandemic.  These changes have been initiated for the protection of our applicants and for our volunteers while we are dealing with Covid-19.  Once the virus has subsided to the point that people are not dying with this horrific virus, SRC will go back to our standard protocol with home visits being conducted. These will not be done until contagion is not an issue. The revised documentation may be submitted via email and/or fax (1-910-401-1317). You may request an Adoption Application at our email address:   [email protected] Please plan on welcoming your new dog into your home within two weeks after approval. We cannot hold dogs because this limits our intake of others in need; SRC adopts them out on a first-come, first-serve basis based on a completed approved adoption process. If you are unable to accept your adopted dog within this time frame then SRC will go to the next approval and place with someone able to give the rescue a home within the proper time frame. SRC does not ordinarily adopt its dogs to families with children under ten years of age. Exceptions are sometimes made on a case by case basis but only when the dog has been raised with children and the children are very respectful of animals.  This is for the protection of the dogs and for the protection of the children. Procedures will be explained to you at the time of approval regarding donation and contract. Your donation is made in honor of the adoption of your new family companion and is never a purchase of an animal.  This tax deductible donation goes forward to help incoming rescued dogs. Our average total expense per dog includes but is not limited to the list of  expenses shown below. Here is a break-down of the average expenses spent on SRC dogs to assure they remain healthy and happy as they are prepared for adoption: Office Visit $45-75; Fecal $14-45; Rabies $14-45; DHPP $14-45; Bordatella $14-45; Heart-worm, Lyme, Ehrliccia Testing $30-55; Heart-worm  Preventative $70 per month; Spay or Neuter $300-$700; Total Basic Vetting $478- $765; ADDITIONAL VETTING: Teeth Cleaning/Dental $300 - $1550; Blood Panel $120 -$185; Cherry Eye $300-$700; Urinary Tract Infection $90-$450; Heart-worm Treatment $300-$1200; Luxating Patellas $1,800 per leg; Cruciate Surgery $1,200 per leg; Entropian Surgery $250-$500; Demodectic Mange $200 per month; X-Ray $80 - $120; Ultrasound: $550; Cataract Surgery $1800 - $3500; Boarding $450 per month per dog  SRC  wants to thank you for your interest in our rescued dogs. We put our heart and souls into saving their lives.  Often the medical expense, time and effort expended to help these dogs, far outweighs the minimal donation requested to adopt these innocent ones.  Please understand SRC is limited in the number of dogs in our safe haven and if you are not selected to adopt one of them, it is not a reflection on your ability to provide a good home for a canine, simply our lack of ability to provide for the overwhelming demand from applicants.  SRC urges you to pursue rescue -- it is definitely a worthy mission even if you do not adopt from SRC.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process includes an application which is reviewed, then a vet and or personal reference. If this is satisfactory, then an informal home visit is conducted -- when this is approved an adoption contract is reviewed and signed. A tax deductible donation is requested which seldom covers the medical charges of the canine which has been readied for its new home. Each rescued dog is also evaluated for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to adoption and its medical needs are met, sometimes to include restoring vision when they have juvenile cataracts, removing bladders stones, doing dentals, micro-chipping, etc.
