Speaking of Dogs Rescue

Speaking of Dogs Rescue Program is a Canadian registered charity. We are a volunteer-based dog rescue in Toronto that is dedicated to assisting dogs from shelters as well as taking in dogs surrendered by their owner when space allows. We have a focus on helping senior dogs. Our dogs are lovingly cared for in foster homes until we find them a suitable forever home.

Meet Pippa

A very cute little bundle has graced us with her presence. Pippa is a 9-month-old Bichon mix (perhaps Maltese) who weighs in at 5.5 lbs.  Pippa came to us from a puppy mill and is adjusting well to her new life. There are still a few hurdles like stairs and walking on a leash she needs to learn. She likes people and gets along well with dogs big and small. Playtime is a big deal for her, and she loves to play with other dogs and the more toys, the better.      She is quite the cuddler and prefers to sleep in bed with her foster parents. She has her own dog bed which she uses to drag all her toys into and play. She also uses her foster parent’s bed as a toy box.  At night, they find her toys strewn across their bed! Pippa is quite a calm little girl and loves car rides. She enjoys looking out the window and sometimes naps during rides. A dog booster and seat belt work fine for her.  She is trained to use puppy pads but she will also go outside. She loves having a fenced in backyard to run around. Currently Pippa is being fostered with 3 small dogs and are fed Royal Canin Adult food (canned) and Performatrin Ultra (kibble). She has a good appetite and eats 2 meals a day. Benny Bully are her favourite treats.    For the most part Pippa is a quiet girl and barking has not been much of an issue. She is good to groom as well. So far Pippa has not been destructive when left alone, but she sometimes shreds her puppy pads.  While Pippa appears to be a perfectly healthy puppy, the vet found a heart murmur. An ultrasound determined that there was a defect in her heart, and she will need surgery. Her shots are up to date. She cannot be spayed until the heart surgery is done (which the rescue will cover).  Pippa is a lively little girl and she would do well in a home with another small dog or as a solo dog who has friends she can regularly play with. We would prefer a home with no young children. She will make someone a very loving companion.

Adoption Process
We have applicants fill out a questionnaire, we do a phone interview, and if things go well we do a home check. If that goes well we arrange for the person to meet the dog in the presence of one of our volunteers. If that goes well and all parties are happy and it's the right fit, we have the person sign an adoption contract. We spay/neuter, vaccinate, and microchip all dogs prior to adoption. Also, the contract states that if in the future they can't keep the dog that they must return the dog to us. Our adoption fee is $450.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
