JAX HAS AN ADOPTION PENDING!!!!  WE, THEREFORE, WILL NOT BE PROCESSING ANY OTHER APPLICATIONS FOR HIM.Let's talk Jax everyone - there are so many words to describe him -- fun, sweet, smart, obedient, loving and that's just to start!!  And how about his cool look. Anyone else see an 80's rockstar like maybe Rick Springfield, lol.  Our best assessment is that he is 9 months, which means we see those moments of teenage energy, but he quickly listens and settles down.  Jax would love a backyard and some activities like hiking or maybe even play dates if his new home has no siblings for him.    People and dogs both make him happy, even his vet visit was loves, hugs, belly rubs and tail wags.  While Jax enjoys others dogs, we think he would also do fine as a solo dog, provided he was involved in family life and some fun activities. Jax is fine tuning his basic manners like crating and a schedule for potty training. Just a few days in and he is picking it all up quickly. It helps that he is very food motivated. Our best assessment (NO GUARANTEE) is that Jax is a poodle mix.   Right now, he is about 50 lbs and he needs to gain a little weight to get to his ideal size.  He is a medium-sized dog, and given his lovely disposition, we feel he would fit in great in family situations where he would be included in day-to-day activities and family life. _______________________________________________________________________**If you are seriously interested, YOU NEED TO APPLY.  Also, a follow-up email to [email protected], is strongly recommended. (So, please check your SPAM.)  Our process is straightforward but involves a phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment.  An adoption fee of $450, and a refundable $35 spay/neuter deposit (required by NYS law), apply. Adoption Process
The adoption process will begin with an extensive adoption application, accessible on our website. In addition to a series of questions (e.g., to ascertain the adopter's likes/dislikes, lifestyle, and general suitability), the application will require, among other things, a veterinary reference and two personal (non-family member) references. In lieu of a veterinary references, we will require 3 personal references. We will also require submission of digital photos of home and yard, as well as a home visit. Approved adopters will be required to take their pup or dog to the vet within 7 days of adoption. Each animal adopted from Safe At Last will go home with a medical booklet, complete with all details of vetting done prior to adoption, with explicit instructions as to the follow up required. All animals will be UTD with all age appropriate shots prior to adoption, and barring any health reasons that would preclude it, they will be placed on topical protection for fleas/ticks, and based on age, also started on heartworm preventative (or provided with the first dose). Any animals older than 4 months will be spayed/neutered before adoptions. For animals under 4 months old, the adoption contract will require spay/neuter by the time the animal is 6 months of age. We will require proof of same and will assign one of our members to have the task of following up on proof of spay and neuter. Under the contract, the adoptive family will not "own" the animal until we have received proof of spay and neuter. Failure to have the surgery performed will allow us, under the contract, to reclaim the pet.
