Meet ValoreeVal came from a property with many dogs, so they didn't necessarily receive a ton of one-on-one human interaction early in life; however all of the dogs on the property (who are now ALL fixed), are well-natured dogs.Valoree is about 6.5 months old (born 11/28/24) - best guess, no guarantee is that these dogs are Shepherd/Retriever/LGD (livestock guardian dogs-like Great Pyrenees). They are currently ~60lbs, so these kids are likely going to be large to xlarge adult dogs. Val is a happy healthy puppy. Loves to play chase and keep away. Doing a good job of chewing on toys and not the house - although since she's still a puppy, she should be crated when left alone. Loves to be inside and sleep on pillows. Very kissy, docile, and submissive. Loves to be pet. She's also still afraid of neighborhood noises..and the fly swatter.., and may make a big woof, but all she needs is reassurance that there's no danger. Similar to most of her siblings, Valoree relies heavily on following what other dogs in her foster home are doing and behaving - therefore we feel she would progress best being adopted into a home with another resident dog.Val is fostered with other dogs of all sizes as well as kitties - all wonderful.  She would be fine with respectful kids.  She is also crate trained and potty trained-as with any rescue dog (or any dog for that matter), they should be provided with plenty of opportunities while transitioning in their new environment. Valoree is spayed, up-to-date on core vaccines, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, current on flea/tick/heartworm preventative, and is microchipped!____________________________________________________________________ **If you are interested, YOU NEED TO APPLY.  Also, a follow-up email to [email protected] is strongly recommended. (So, please check your SPAM.)  Our process is straightforward but involves a phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment.  An adoption donation of $450 applies. Adoption Process
The adoption process will begin with an extensive adoption application, accessible on our website. In addition to a series of questions (e.g., to ascertain the adopter's likes/dislikes, lifestyle, and general suitability), the application will require, among other things, a veterinary reference and two personal (non-family member) references. In lieu of a veterinary references, we will require 3 personal references. We will also require submission of digital photos of home and yard, as well as a home visit. Approved adopters will be required to take their pup or dog to the vet within 7 days of adoption. Each animal adopted from Safe At Last will go home with a medical booklet, complete with all details of vetting done prior to adoption, with explicit instructions as to the follow up required. All animals will be UTD with all age appropriate shots prior to adoption, and barring any health reasons that would preclude it, they will be placed on topical protection for fleas/ticks, and based on age, also started on heartworm preventative (or provided with the first dose). Any animals older than 4 months will be spayed/neutered before adoptions. For animals under 4 months old, the adoption contract will require spay/neuter by the time the animal is 6 months of age. We will require proof of same and will assign one of our members to have the task of following up on proof of spay and neuter. Under the contract, the adoptive family will not "own" the animal until we have received proof of spay and neuter. Failure to have the surgery performed will allow us, under the contract, to reclaim the pet.
