Widdle **ADOPTION PENDING**Have you met our heeler mix sisters (Widdle and Bunny)???Well, meet Widdle, as in the “little one” in baby talk. Widdle is a little smaller than her sister but has such a big and fun personality. She loves her toys and beds and can entertain herself for hours with a bucket of toys. Got ice cubes?? She can round them all up and keep them from escaping until they are melted. Fetch, she's all in! Widdle also does great with other dogs and is very respectful; she plays at their leisure. We are working on potty training, and she's so smart and catching on quickly. She crates and sleeps through the night too. If you are looking for that smart, fun and active girl then Widdle is it! Widdle weighs 14 lbs right now and is looking for her forever home. Her ideal home would be one where there is room to play and where she would be engaged by her family and included in day-to-day activities. Widdle and Bunny are currently in foster care in North Carolina and will be making the trip to New York soon. *If you are seriously interested, YOU NEED TO APPLY (please see instructions below). Also, a follow-up email to [email protected] is strongly recommended. To fill out an application, first, please register on www.safeatlast.net. When you receive your password (on your email account), log back on to complete the Safe at Last online adoption application. IF WE FEEL YOU ARE A POTENTIALLY GOOD MATCH, WE WILL CONTACT YOU BY EMAIL - SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM. All our rescues are fostered in private homes - WITHOUT YOUR APPLICATION, WE CANNOT CONSIDER YOU, and you cannot meet our rescue animals until you have applied and been approved. Adopters are required to visit the NY foster home to complete the adoption (in the Schoharie County/Albany County area). Our review process is very straightforward - it involves a phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment. An adoption fee of $450 and a refundable $35 spay/neuter deposit (required by NYS law) also apply. (We will not respond to generic "check the box" petfinder inquiries.) Thank you for choosing to rescue and for your interest. NYS Rescue Registry No. RR 087.
Adoption Process
The adoption process will begin with an extensive adoption application, accessible on our website. In addition to a series of questions (e.g., to ascertain the adopter's likes/dislikes, lifestyle, and general suitability), the application will require, among other things, a veterinary reference and two personal (non-family member) references. In lieu of a veterinary references, we will require 3 personal references. We will also require submission of digital photos of home and yard, as well as a home visit. Approved adopters will be required to take their pup or dog to the vet within 7 days of adoption. Each animal adopted from Safe At Last will go home with a medical booklet, complete with all details of vetting done prior to adoption, with explicit instructions as to the follow up required. All animals will be UTD with all age appropriate shots prior to adoption, and barring any health reasons that would preclude it, they will be placed on topical protection for fleas/ticks, and based on age, also started on heartworm preventative (or provided with the first dose). Any animals older than 4 months will be spayed/neutered before adoptions. For animals under 4 months old, the adoption contract will require spay/neuter by the time the animal is 6 months of age. We will require proof of same and will assign one of our members to have the task of following up on proof of spay and neuter. Under the contract, the adoptive family will not "own" the animal until we have received proof of spay and neuter. Failure to have the surgery performed will allow us, under the contract, to reclaim the pet.
