VT Dog Rescue

VT Dog Rescue is a non-profit canine rescue focused on saving the Underdog. The sweet dogs who are passed over day after day simply because they are not perfect. Who is an underdog?- older dogs who are wise and love to snuggle- tri-pawed dogs who are happily enjoying life with 3 legs- shy dogs who need a little extra love to help them build confidence - dogs who may limp or have a physical limitation that humans see as a flaw, but they accept with dignity - dogs who are missing an eye and have adapted to navigate their world The Underdogs have, against all odds, retained their ability to be loyal and trusting companions who love us unconditionally. We believe the Underdogs, just like other shelter dogs, deserve to be rescued and placed in loving, responsible homes where they can shine.

Meet Roxie

This gorgeous girl is Roxie. She is likely a pure bred German Shepherd, about 13 months old and currently weighing about 90 lbs. We are looking for a very specific adopter and environment for Roxie where she can continue to thrive. Information is provided on our website. Please only apply if you meet this criteria. She is a very special dog. Her new person MUST have previously lived with, trained and lovingly cared for a German Shepherd dog or a dog with the traits discussed below. Roxie will bond quickly with her person/people and will be protective of anyone coming into her space or near her people. A dedicated protector, Roxie takes her job seriously. Her adopter MUST be comfortable with large breed dogs. She is only 13 months old and is already a large dog at 90 lbs. She is still growing. Her size, her deep, loud bark, her breed and her actions can come across as frightening to people who are not familiar with these traits. Her  new person MUST be willing to commit to a continuation of her training as a condition of her adoption. Socialization is a life-long part of raising a good dog. Roxie needs repeated, positive exposure to every day activities to become more comfortable with them. This will take dedication & consistency. For the past few months, Roxy has been working with Alec Sparks who is based in Addison, VT. “She's cautious around strangers but super loving quickly, great with all other dogs and has been been fine with cats/kids/chickens. She's house broken, crate trained and I've formalized her off leash recall. She's had little experience in more urban environments and is clearly a bit nervous. She just needs a confident leader and more experience before she's taken to a busy farmer’s market. Whoever adopts her through VT Dog Rescue will have free lifetime consultation with me going forward. She's one of the nicest dogs I've ever worked with!” - Alec Sparks Roxie is a wonderful example of the German Shepherd breed with her beautiful coloring, stunning eyes, sweet nature and a balanced mix of playful energy, brilliant intelligence and affection. However, the lack of early socialization has influenced her temperament and led to her need for a skilled, breed savvy, patient adopter. In exchange for this dedication, Roxie’s adopter will be sharing life with an amazing dog! She will thrive in the right environment with the support and training we are describing. She has many wonderful traits including the ability to play fetch, self entertain with toys inside and outside, and a strong desire to stay close to her people. Roxie is housebroken, crate trained and walks well with a leash. She is friendly and affectionate with the people & dogs in her pack. Roxie is.heartworm negative & has been spayed, She is happily sharing her home with cats and has enjoyed positive experiences with sheep, rabbits, geese and chickens. Our adoption fee is $400 which includes age appropriate vaccines (such as Distemper, Bordetella, Parvo, Rabies), spaying, worming, micro-chipping, and health exam. Discount vouchers for training, grooming and similar dog related products and services are provided.
