Meet Sugar Spiceworth *LOCAL*

To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application  HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see  HERE Age: 1 year (as of 2/15/24) Weight: 54 pounds (as of 4/15/24) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.       Sugar Spiceworth is a very affectionate and outgoing Treeing Walker hound mix who is about a year old. She was dropped off last summer at a local dog rescue agency and has been living in a foster home with two adults and a dog. She is well-integrated into the home, and regularly spends time with a seven-year-old child and a thirteen-year-old child. She is friendly and playful, but sometimes a little rowdy with kids, so she may not be the best fit for a home with very young children.   Sugar Spiceworth has not lived with cats or small animals, but when she sees them outside, she is very interested and sometimes barks. She is always happy to meet new dogs and has been both agreeable and responsive to corrections. She loves playing bitey mouth, chase, or tug-o-war with her canine friends.  She loves toys of all kinds, especially squeakies.   Her house, crate, and leash training are all in progress, and she is doing well. She is left alone for a few hours at a time and may bark at first, but then she settles down. Like many young dogs, Sugar Spiceworth is prone to pulling on the leash. She will sometimes indulge in a bit of counter surfing, and she likes to jump on furniture, especially couches. She is calm in the car but will sometimes try to escape during transfers out of pure eagerness. We recommend training for all of our dogs, especially puppies, and it is a great way for both of you to learn commands together while the dog gains confidence. It's also fun!   Sugar Spiceworth is always ready for a new adventure, but she will also enjoy curling up next to you on the couch for a nap.  She is a lovely young hound mix who is going to be a fun and energetic companion to anyone who is lucky enough to bring her home!   Medical Note:   This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine). Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.     An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see  HERE  for more information about this.   To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
