Chama Valley Humane Society

Founded in 1998, the Chama Valley Humane Society is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization supported entirely through fundraising, private donations, and grants. Our mission is to provide no-kill solutions to reduce the population of homeless cats and dogs by sponsoring a spay and neuter program for companion pets and feral cats, working with regional shelters and foster homes to rehabilitate and rehome animals, and educating those in the community we serve about responsible pet ownership. We serve a 600 square mile area of northern Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. We do not have a shelter, but we try to take in all animals we can from the Village of Chama holding facility as well as strays and unwanted animals throughout our region. All rescued animals are fostered locally until they can be adopted or transferred to no- or low-kill shelters or rescues. In addition to rescue and foster, we support the following programs:• A low-cost spay-neuter program for community pet owners• An Angel Fund to help pet owners pay for unexpected veterinarian bills through a no-interest revolving loan• WAG ‘n READ - A Reading Education and Assistance Dogs® program that works in our local schools to strengthen the animal-human bond while enhancing the reading experience for children

Meet Sister

Sweet, shy Sister was rescued from a difficult situation with well over 20 dogs plus additional pups. She has been fostered by a family in Dulce and loves the children (school age) as well as the adults, but she is still somewhat shy with new people. She has been spayed and is up-to-date with shots. We hope to take her into foster in the future, but have no room at the moment. Sister looks like she has some Husky in her but is mostly a sweet mix-up who needs a loving home to call her own.

Adoption Process
application, interview animal must be spayed or neutered fees are generally from $35 - $100

Look for other dogs for adoption!
