Sierra County Humane Society

We are a no-kill nonprofit animal rescue that houses companion animals on our grounds and in foster homes until we find them their forever homes. I have a masters in business administration and took over running the organization after our past Director passed away. I was a volunteer worker and animal care provider here for 2 years prior to joining the board and taking over running the organization.

Meet Cooper

COURTESY POST: Cooper is located in Socorro NM. Hello, I’m Cooper! I know, I know. You are totally awestruck by my classic Red-Heeler smashing good looks. Happens every time. People see a Red Heeler with one floppy and one straight ear and they just go banana cakes. I get it though because when I look in the mirror I see an utterly handsome fella looking back at me. But there is way more to me than just being the best looking dog in the neighborhood. I’m also a Very Good Boy. Let me explain. First I'll give you my contact info. Call or text my family (Rhiannon) at 575-322-8305 to learn more about about me. Okay, here we go. I was a Rez Dog and had a pretty small life at one time. I got rescued and now I have a foster family taking care of me until I get adopted. And here comes the best part! I have the wonderful benefit of being fostered by a dog trainer. Yep, that’s right. I’m living with someone who is training me in all the ways of being a treasured pet. I don’t know how I got this lucky in life but here I am and here we are. Me being in need of a family and you ready to find the peanut butter to your jelly. I am crate trained, house trained, and doggie door trained. I am also trained to know which furniture in the home I can get on and which are forbidden. And I mind my Ps and Qs because as I mentioned I live with a dog trainer and so I’m taking an active role in my House Pet education. I love to run and do zoomies and I know commands like “sit”, “outside”, “off” and enjoy my lessons. I like learning and I enjoy the fruits of being a Very Good Boy. I do well with dogs though I’ll do best in an experienced home or as an only dog. I do need support around having lots of people coming into and out of the home so I would be happiest in a family that doesn’t have hoards of company coming over. I don’t require a recluse as an owner but I also don’t need the most social of the social butterflies either, if you know what I mean. I think little kids are not for me and who knows about cats. My foster family can give you all the ins and outs of how to introduce me to dogs and people and give us the support we need to find out if I’m a good fit in your home. Call or text my foster family at 575-322-8305. We think that I am about 3 years old and I’m about 45 pounds. I’m neutered and up to date on vaccinations. When I’m adopted I get to keep my favorite dog bed, harness, leash, collar, food bowl, and DNA test! AND PLUS ALSO! My foster family is willing to transport me within NM, CO, west TX, east AZ, or southeast UT. How about them apples! ROAD TRIP! And we’re heading to your house ha ha ha! Maybe so? Call or text Rhiannon at 575-322-8305 to learn more about about me.

Adoption Process
We have a $75 adoption fee. We have an application for adoption, an adoption waiver, and a sterilization contract for any animal adopted prior to sterilization age. We do home visits and provide post adoption counseling to ensure successful adoptions.
