Northstar Pet Rescue

In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out. We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home. NorthStar Pet Rescue was founded in 2017, and although we might be a relatively new name among New Jersey animal rescues, you may recognize some of us from the work we’ve done volunteering with other rescues to help animals over the past decade. We are 100% dedicated to operating in an safe, transparent, and ethical manner and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).

Meet Budukha TX

Meet Budukha aka Buddy, a 13-year-old male Dachshund who was surrendered to a shelter in Brenham, TX, perhaps because of his owner's health? Someone who used to walk by his former home said she would see Buddy and his owner sitting outside. Buddy would always run up and greet the woman in order to get some love & pets. He is a very friendly little guy and he LOVES snuggling in laps! Buddy was much loved and spoiled in his previous home so we are looking for a new family who will treat him the way he deserves to be treated! Buddy is good with children and all people - he has never met a stranger, he loves everyone.  He is even okay with being picked up and handled by strangers. He loves giving kisses! He does well with other dogs (he's in a foster home with lots of them!), but he would be fine as an only dog. Buddy not only likes cats, he LOVES them. He keeps trying to wash my cat's face and he lets him do it for a while and then says, OK, I'm done! He is just such a delightful little dog! Buddy is mostly housetrained - most nights he is good but some mornings I find a puddle in the kitchen. I've been putting a pee pad down in the area he has had accidents and that is working.  An overnight belly band would probably work well for him. too.  Buddy has tested positive for Cushings Disease and is on 20mg Vetroyl daily. He has a grade 2 heart murmur. and badly needs a dental done. We are hoping he can get medical clearance soon to get the dental surgery he needs.  Buddy is 13 years old but is still very active and does stairs and jumps up on the couch like a much younger dog. It amazes me with his short little legs how high he can jump, LOL! He does walk well on the leash. All this sweet boy wants is to be with you and get treats - he is not a barker, unless you are taking too long in giving him treats or he thinks you should share your food with him.  He takes treats very gently, there is no aggression over food at all.   Buddy does have hearing loss but foster mom can generally get his attention with a sharp hand clap.  And since he is never far from her it doesn't pose a problem.  His eyesight is great, he doesn't miss a thing.   Weighing in at 15 pounds, he's a great size for every home! Buddy is just a great little guy who is going to be a wonderful companion for some lucky person or family. If you'd like to bring this boy home with you, please complete an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to ask for him by his full name, BUDUKHA AKA BUDDY TX!

Adoption Process
Potential adopters will submit an adoption application. The adopters information will be screened including veterinary and personal references. After the first round of screening they will get the chance to meet the pet. If it is a good match, as deemed by NSPR volunteers, the adopter will complete an adoption contract and pay the fee of 375.00. All animals will be spayed/neutered and fully vetted prior to adoption. The only exception would be small puppies in which case the adopter will submit an additional deposit refundable upon proof of spay/neuter. In the event an animal is no longer wanted, the adoption contract will stipulate that the animal always gets returned to us, and is never sold, given away, or surrendered to another rescue or shelter.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
